Got my RDX in Sept and just lost my XM signal on Friday. Would like to continue the service w/realtime traffic. Do you think I can call and get this deal? I know the traffic is extra. Can't believe I haven't heard from XM yet.

I got my RDX sept 21 and the XM turned off right around jan 2nd I think it was. You can definitely call and get the deal. There was no code or anything on the flyer I got. before they had a "zwinback" code, but it isn't mentioned anymore. I'll have to get the phone number off the flyer and post it. Its in the car right now so it'll have to wait...

my XM expired yesterday & was turned off at 7:00 AM after my three months. so, on my way back home yesterday afternoon I called & told them that my subscription had expired & i would like to renew at the $77 rate (i said i got some flyer & that is the only reason why I decided to renew). the rep never missed a beat, i gave him radio code, later my credit card, & in a few minutes i had my XM back!

1) I wish XM and Sirius would merge for better programming.
2) The price for satallite radio it too much. $9.99 for real-time traffic and $12.99 for XM. I pay only $16 for cable and I get more out of it. There is no programming on XM for me. I still listen to AM (780 AM).
3) I think the pricing should be lower for car builtin units. Compare to a portable model, I can only use the car model when I'm in the car. Why build it in the car?
Just my two cents.

I saw it comming. XM and Sirius business models are [siriusly] flawed. Both over estimated the market size and the pricing structure exceeds the product's utility. People complain about price going up if they merge, I don't think so. The price/demand curve is so steep satellite radio, if they raised the price by $1, people would drop the service and not feel like they are missing anything. They still have serious competition from local radio and iPods (podcast).

The prices are supposed to remain the same unless you want programming from the service you do not have, for us from Sirus.
Where XM has Major League Baseball and Sirus has National Leage Football, if you want NFL programming, you are going to pay more.
Here is an excerpt from a March 7th article in the NY Times:
Federal Communications Commission chairman Kevin J Martin privately questioned recent Congressional testimony by Sirius chief executive Mel Karmazin, architect of proposed merger of satellite radio companies Sirius and XM Satellite, that subscribers would both pay same monthly rate and receive significantly more programming; Martin, in separate conversations with two people after Karmazin's testimony to House committee, said that subscribers may be surprised to learn they may actually have to pay more than current monthly rate of $12.95 for programming from both services; Karmazin says subscribers wanting to keep their existing service will not face price increase, and listeners who want best of both services will pay less than combined rate of $25.90; proposed $13 billion deal cannot be completed without permission of antitrust lawyers at Justice Department and majority of five FCC commissioners

No contract or cancellation fees. Cancel at anytime and reveive a prorated refund.
Call 800-643-6031. They do have a saving code, but it is the same at the XM radio ID so everyone is different. Says absolutely nothing about navtraffic.

the 77$ deal still works. renewed this morning using info from this thread in the RL forum: (thx sasair)
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1756
They never asked for a code. Note that the phone number differs from the one on the full price renewal flyer I got in the mail.

You guys are the best! No problem, I even asked if hubby could get the deal as a former free trial user. He was added on of $7 more for the year. He declined though, as he doesn't drive the big truck enough to spend $84 for a year of XM.
Here's the catch...DO cancel Before you expire next near or you'll be charged the regular fee for uninturrupted service. Make a note of that!
Oh the radio ID? You'll find that at XM "0". You need to use the scan button to get to "zero" There's your ID in the window...it's a number with letters. (I thought it was the radio code..."Not "!)
FYI: I used the RL forum link!
PS: Flar, I didn't check on "traffic onlY" but to add real time traffic is $3.99/month, and I really don't need it (but I'm in upstate NY)

I would have to pay for the navtraffic. Don't remember what the charge was for navtraffic. It may be only $5 extra a month. I asked if there was any deals for just the Navtraffic and XM sales person said "no."
Since I don't listen to XM, it didn't seem like a deal for me.

Afaik, there are no deals/promos for XM's navi-traffic. It's an additional $3.99/mo (+ tax) over the number of months in your XM subscription... Just my 2 cents, but frankly I don't see where it's worth that!

Looks like sirius and XM are gonna merge by late 2007. You got your wish!
The letter I got from XM explains they will honor existing contracts (even multi year contracts) looks like I might enjoy all those channels for 4-5 months without having to pay more. It's a great marketing tool for them to get us all hooked with a XM-Sirius upgrade subscription! Only to roll it over. Like I said..if you get the $77 dollar deal, cancel before the end or you'll be charged the full amount of the upgrade (no competition).
just a note: good idea to type this into the calendar in the car. I did this already so I don't get automaticly charged next year.

$77.00
Thank you all for the tip. I just renewed for $77.00. The first time I called I asked for the $77.00 a year special, the guy said you need a special code so I hung up. I called again and I told them I received a card in the mail for the $77.00 special, the operator said no problem took my info and I 'm good for another year! My free subscription does not expire till April 29th!

Just to throw another update in here, I just got the $77 deal too. I called in and said my 3 month trial was over. They updated my account, put me on hold and came back to say they could do it. Pretty excited! There's no way I'd pay $13/month for this, but $77/year is perfect!

I just got the offer too. I received one a month or so ago when my subscription lapsed, but I did not think I was in my RDX enough to warrant reactivation. Now I am reconsidering it. DW and the kids want it so we could listen to the Yankee games. Also note that they are waiving th $15 reactivation fee. Jay

So, someone mentioned in an earlier post that you'd have to cancel (if you get the $77/yr deal) before the end of 12 months otherwise they'd just continue service and charge the non-discounted rate for the next 12 months??
Is that correct?

Well after 30 min of being transfered they finally sent me to the "escalation" department in Jamaca. They were not going to renew me for the $77 either. So I told them Im going to cancel and switch to Sirus, All of a sudden they were able to speak with their manager and was able to give me another year at $77.
I love saving Money. Now lets hope they actually put it thru like that since they didnt have an confirmation code.

$77 dollar deal
For those who are interested, the 12 months of XM for $77 is alive and well. I renewed last Sunday. They put the $77 plus $4.62 tax on my credit card and my system was up and running in less than 15 minutes.
They did not ask for any savings code ........ only my radio number. I like deals and this is a 50% savings.

Unfortunately, that will all change if/when the merger takes place between the two.

The script worked for me too! Here it is in case you need it....
First... call and make sure they are not going to auto renew you and charge your credit card. Have your radio code, found on XM ch 0, and call the customer service number. Tell them you want to let it expire because it's too expensive at full rates.
Then, they might offer you the $77 deal. If so, skip the rest of these steps and take it. If not, hang up after making sure it will not auto renew.
After it cancels, then call in with the script about having gotten a flyer. See the big yellow scan of the flyer posted previously HERE.
SCRIPT FOLLOWS:
Then call the 800-682-4114 number and read the script: "Hello. My subscription to XM Radio has expired but I just got a flyer with a special offer. I would like to take advantage of this offer for $77 for a year.
If they ask for the promotion code, say "zwinback". If they ask for the radio code, give that to them. They WILL ask for it because that's the only way they can turn it on. If you had, in fact, gotten a flyer, it would have your radio code printed on it so have it handy.

My 3 month trial ends in two days.. I called 800 682-4114 and said that I did not want to renew my service because it was too expensive. The sales person immediately offered the $77/yr price to me without any code or flyer references. Traffic at $3.99. Done. It will renew after 1 year at full price without my calling.... reminder already placed in calendar.
