$77 XM Satellite Deal

I'm on the $77 + $24 deal through March. I called today to see if I could add "Best of Sirius" to that.
Unfortunately, those of us on the $77 deal would have to cancel that deal and sign up at the prevailing rate of $16.99/mo for XM + Best of Sirius (Howard, Martha, NFL).
Ugh.

I received a renewal notice for $159.99 per year, and this time, i was willing to cancel, since this is something that is low on life's priority; however, for $77, I will make an exception.
Called, attempted to cancel, got the operator to process the termination, got transferred, spoke with cancelation/specialist department (i assume XM'S savior), and confirmed that I don't want it anymore, unless the deal was offered.
After a few hesitiating moments, the resistance was no longer present, and the deal was renewed again.
2nd year deal, and stilll at $77, is approperiate; I also have a helix for $6.99 per month.

In June I renewed for $77 for the 2nd year in a row. I just had to call a few times to get to the "right" person who was willing to do it. Didn't even have to go through the "I'm going to cancel."

Just as an update to everyone on this thread, yesterday I called XM and could get the $77 promotion. No code required, just told them that the dealer mentioned the promotion and I was all set. My 3 month trial ended on December 29 so I have a year subscription after that.
Hope it helps.

I just renewed my XM for $77 for the 2nd year in a row. Didn't need any special code. I just said "I want to cancel because it is too expensive". The clerk immediately offered the $77/year rate.
#166
Sweet.
Just said it was too expensive and want to cancel, before my trial ends.
$77 year.
3.99 Per Month Nav. (Couldn't get the 1/2 off on it.)
*12.95 credit, since I have 2 weeks left on my 3 month trial.

Was on the $77 plan last year; received my renewal invoice for $145. Called to cancel and was offered:
3 months for $14.97
6 months for $38.85
12 months for $77.00
Additionally, I took them up on the offer for the 1-month free ($12.95 off) for signing up for auto pay. Total for 12 months service after all discounts was $64.05 plus tax ($5.33/mo).

Just got the $77 today after I saw a charge of $152.28 on credit card. Called to cancel, got the deal. Done. Couldn't get the $12.95 off because I was already set up for auto pay. I kind of wanted NAV, but can live without it.

I just called to renew for $77 for our second year- 12/29 expiration. I was told that was a one time offer and then transferred when I said cancel. The second guy, Omar, fixed me right up for $77. He also advised me that when it was time to renew again to call if I had any problems with the deal and they would try to work something out.
#171
Called XM today to see if they would renew me again for $77/yr (for the 3rd time), and they said NO. I said I would cancel and she said OK cancel! After reading the latest thread here (above) I tried again. The second lady transfered me to the promotions dept., and they said OK we can renew it for the same $77. As stated in the previous threads just keep trying and someone will give in. Their web site is no help as they are just offering less programs for more money. XM has just started an all Elvis music spot too.

My 3 months trial ends 1/2/2008 and I just called and gave them the speech from one of the threads that I want to continue my subscription and my dealership told me about the $77/yr and she asked for my credit card. I couldn't get any deal on traffic letting know that my dealer said it would be $2/mo and she said no that it would be $3.99/mo. So like Google map on Blackberry it is. Thanks guys for everyone’s help!!

Hello to all,
I recently purchased (October) a 2007 RDX that came with the 3 month XM trial package.
I just renewed for 1 year at $77.00. I just asked for it.

Diggin' the RDX!
The audio quality of XM has gone down a lot since I bought my RDX in Jan. of '07. And since Sirius took over, there are very often annoying dropouts. Not sure if I'm gonna renew or not, but thanks all for posting the deals.

What stations are you guys listening to when you say the XM quality has "gone down a lot"?
I'm just curious because the XM Stations I listen to seem to be just fine.
XM Channels: 20, 25, 49, 50, 54, 70, 80, 81, 84, 123, 131, and 140

Hopefully this deal will still be around after the SiriusXM price increases on March 11th.
My trial sub on the RDX will be up right about then.

My wife has a 3rd party XM player I had installed into the dash. We pay $155 for that service. I wonder if I can call them up and ask for the same offer that I'm getting with the Acura??? Or maybe there is some kind of family package.

I've noticed the dropouts as well. I was hoping it wasn't a new problem with my radio - guess not. The other thing I noticed is that my reception appears to have improved. I used to lose signal a lot in the mountains up here in New England. I RARELY lose my signal now.
Not sure what to make of it. Right now I'm just trying to decide if I should pay for the 3 year deal to lock in at 9+ bucks per month and free online listening. I'm not sure how much longer they'll keep this $77 deal going, and frankly I'm tired of fighting with them every year to get it.
For those of you that are interested, I asked about their 'lifetime' package. For those of us with OEM radios, it is NON-TRANSFERABLE unless the radio breaks and is replaced by the dealer. It sounded like a good deal until I heard that. Unless you plan to keep your RDX forever, it's not really a lifetime deal It is transferable if you buy it for a portable.

I just got off phone with XM renewal. I just told them I wanted the $77 1yr deal. He said no problem. Then began to try and sell me the 2 yr deal for $245. I was like... what? lol
So, at the end, he said it will auto renew at the standard rates new year on my debit catd. I said, not it wont. I dont want auto renew so please take that out. He said, okay.
Wanna bet it auto renews anyway?

At this point in SXM's financial situation it would be best to limit your commitment to no more than a year at a time.

I'm at $77/year on my main radio and $4.99/month on my second. After the merger quality has went way down and the prices are going up. I'll be canceling if I have to pay even a dollar more than what I'm paying now. My second account will probably be history once its three month term is up. It's too bad they are in the shape they are in. I've been with XM since 2004 and would like to have the service and sound quality I had back then .

I'm not worried about SXM's long-term health. Satellite radio has now gotten to the point where it is an expected utility in America, so if the current company goes under then a new set of buyers will undoubtedly continue running the operation without interruption to current customers. The pricing model and/or programming may change, but I don't think they'll go under and leave everyone hanging.
Regarding the lifetime deal, I remember when I called that the rep priced out 4- and 5-year plans (that were more than $399). Had they offered me a lifetime plan at $399 I would have taken it!

So I called up XM and I was able to get her service down to $83 for the year and keep mine at $77. So I saved/got a credit of $68 which is great. She said that in order for me to renew at $77 I need to call before the current annual contract runs out or else they'll renew me at the higher rate. Let me now if I can do better than this but I'm just happy to have 2 services now for what was just my wife's service at $155.

It's been a while since I've logged on, but it's good to see some of the oldies still here, ie: "catnippants". I thought i'd check in to see what you found out about renewal (for the third time for me hopefully, @ $77). I guess there's nothing posted about deals, so it's try out your luck huh?
I'm due @ the end of March anyway, but sounds like I should put a rush on it before march 11th? Funny, I never thought the sound quality was great, but it's my only option. Any others to get rawdog and all those classics?

I just got the $77 deal in Nov, but I do have a sneaky suspicion that they will stop offering it in March. Lots of price changes...I think that's why I'm considering one of the longer term deals. I use the online listening a lot at work, and I really don't want to pay $3/mo for it above and beyond the already 'high' price for XM. I agree on the sound quality. It's already BARELY worth $77 per year....it's definitely not worth $12.95/month.

Hope nobody bought SIRI stock with the money saved from the $77 per year deal.

Should be filing for Chapter 11 soon.
I've heard of people getting deals better than $77 per year since this past weekend. Maybe I should try to cancel my $77 plan and see what happens.

I don't know if I'd be sending any money to XM or Sirius until they determine what's going to happen to the company. Mostly likely you still get service if they file Chap 11. But I don't know if I'd be sending them anything more than you'd be willing to lose at this point.
#196
Some fold up never to be seen again. And sometimes something happens in the middle of the two. Fact is, we don't know whats going to happen. I personally wouldn't pay anything over the $77 a year subscription deal. If for instance the company is taken over and sold off, then you're potentially out $77. If they file Chap 11 and hold off their creditors, and somehow find someone to loan them money to stay in business (and no one is loaning money), then you probably will have service for at least a year, which is probably true no matter what happens. I certainly wouldn't be paying for a lifetime subscription until there's a clearer picture of what the future holds for Sirius/XM. But that's just my humble opinion.

I find it hard to believe that the satellite radio market is going away. There's definitely demand out there but what might be the problem are the pricing/subscription models that they're using which isn't giving them enough margins to really do anything extra. I have no answer for it but there's definitely a market out there and I'd be very surprised if someone or some company just lets XM/Sirius fall by the way side and not try to take advantage of a market of 16.2M subscribers at $77/year is $1.25B in revenue (Source: Orbitcast). I'm sure that the $1.2B is actually higher as not everyone pays as low as $77, as they don't know about the deal. Basically I'm not too worried about giving my $77. Something will come about to keep satellite radio alive.
#198
They need to have some commercial based channels that are free to play on all units. This would allow you to listen to the same channel from coast to coast and provide ad revenue for SXM. In addition to that you add premium content to create your subscriber base.
Also, something needs to change with the per radio charge. To bring SXM completely into my life I need at a minimum two subs. One for my car and one for my home. In addition I'll need to pay $2.99 for the online feed while at work. Just not worth it to pay so much for so little and that only covers one of my cars and one receiver in my house.
I have a feeling the cancellations are way outnumbering the new subs.

The financial reports I've read say the root of the problem is the big money contracts that XM and Sirius were paying to celebrity DJs when the companies were separate and competing against each other. Each was hoping to put the other out of business, but when that didn't happen, they were both loaded with tons of debt. Then they tried to merge and reduce their expenses, but the George Bush administration delayed that for more than 1 year. When the merger was finally approved, they were already on the verge of bankruptcy. The company has a good chance of surviving if they can use bankruptcy to off-load some of their debt and bring in new financing. Current shareholders are probably SOL, but customers and new investors may do OK.

Sirius was listed as one of the top 10 companies expected to fail in 2009 because of high debt loads and the slowing economy. My one year is up in March. I wouldn't do the lifetime deal, but will renew at $77.
