$77 XM Satellite Deal

Saw a thread on the TL forum about a $77 yearly deal for XM Satellite. I let my 3 month trial period expire, called the 800 number that was then displayed on the screen and asked for the $77 deal, which is still available. That comes out to $6.41 a month!

No deal available for XM Nav.

I think the standard pricing for navtraffic is only $3.99/month as long as you subscribe to radio already.

How much is it per month for the real time traffic if you don't renew the XM?

I'd like to know this too. I have Sirius for Howard Stern and I have no intention of switching but I would like to keep the traffic notification. I hope Sirius comes out with a brain swap soon for Acura/Honda like they did for GM. I want a clean install

Me too. I just checked the nav traffic mini site; it appears as though the subscription for Navtraffic only is 9.95/month. So much for the "nominal fee" advertised on the Acura website site.

Wow it's cheaper to have the full service than just Navtraffic? Mabe they'll do a special deal for it when the subcription expires....

If you sign up before the trial period end, do you still have to pay for an activation fee?

I don't really care for the xm radio but it would be nice to get a deal on the Nav traffic only.

There is nothing on XM radio for me to listen to, no NFL and no NBA. I don't like baseball and NACAR is not for me. The sports talk shows are ok but the sound quality is like they are talking out of a tin can. Maybe too much compression. In fact, any talk only shows just sounds bad, the worst being the weather/traffic channel for chicago.

I am wondering $77 deal is still in effect?

I just got my intro letter fom XM after 2 months. Based on the first post it seems like you have to wait until the subscription expires. Been paying the regular $12.95/month for the past 3 years so a discount would be nice.

Has anyone else taken advantage of this deal?

JD

We just bought our RDX and it a first time I have had subscription radio. I like not having the commercials but I was not sure I wanted to pay a monthly charge for radio, but for $77 a year, I would consider it. We will see if it is stil available wwhen we have to renew. Anyone know when this expires? Jay

Oh that deal has been running for a long time. I think when/if you get a notice about this renewal, it says it expires the next month, but it hasn't expired yet. People have been and continue to do this on the RL and TL forums.

Sounds lie a good deal, what is the 800 number you call. I never received any mailing from XM or Acura after I purchased my RDX in Oct.

Sounds to me that your dealer didn't fill out the paper work & send it into XM radio! I'd contact the manager & start asking questions.

OK, a XM sales person called me today and tried to get me to bite on $14.97 for 3 months. I told him "I don't really listen to XM and I only drive at most 3 days a week." I did ask for a dean on the realtime traffic only, that is the only thing I used. So now I got the RT-traffic for $11.97 and XM for $14.97 for 3 months only to cancel at the end of 3 months.

1) I wish XM and Sirius would merge for better programming.
2) The price for satallite radio it too much. $9.99 for real-time traffic and $12.99 for XM. I pay only $16 for cable and I get more out of it. There is no programming on XM for me. I still listen to AM (780 AM).
3) I think the pricing should be lower for car builtin units. Compare to a portable model, I can only use the car model when I'm in the car. Why build it in the car?

Just my two cents.

Thats a good deal or 3 months. Had your xm expired already and they were trying to get you back?

I don't think there is any way for XM to determine if you have a portable unit or a built in unit. As far as they are concerned they are all the same. But I do agree with your logic. I also think Acura or any manufactorer that has built in satellite radio should give you at least a year free, and they should offer you packages for multi years or even lifetime subscriptions. Wasn't it Sirius that used to offer lifetime subscriptions?

Yes. I had no plans to continue service because the cost exceeded the utility for me, but this deal seemed like it was worth it to me. The service to me is maybe worth a $100 a year for real-time traffic and XM. I would pay maybe $50 per year for just the RT traffic. I would pay $0 for the XM only. If XM just had the NBA or NFL then maybe I would spring for it.

I wish the two satallite radio companies would merge or one go under.

If you ask me 3 or 4 bucks is all xm is worth. Lots of commercials ( and Oprah)ugh I'd rather spend the money on Itunes

The channels I listen to on XM do not have commercials, so in that sense XM is better than terrestrial broadcast radio.

Still working ... mine expires in 1 week and I called in. I played dumb and asked what offers were available, and was told that they mail postcards with their offers. I replied "I'm looking at a yellow one that says 50% off, is that the offer?" No problems, added traffic for $3.99.

NOTE: they wanted to keep the card # on file and did state that it would auto-renew (card expires before that, so no problem!). Will try again next year.

Cheers-
mj

(PS: While I didn't receive a card, I also didn't lie, I was looking at a yellow card: https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...5&postcount=66 )

I hate to break it to you, friend, but just because the credit card expires, it doesn't preclude XM from charging it. Essentially you have given pre-authorization for them to charge your account, which unless you revoke, they can put the charge through regardless if the card has expired. Call your credit card company and they can give you a more detailed explanation. I had XM for a year and i remember that they do not notify you that your subscription is up, they will simply charge you for the automatic renewal. You need to set yourself a reminder to call them to cancel the subscription before it renews.

Good Luck.

well the $ 77 dollar deal still works. Noticed the coupon expires jan o6, but no problems using it thanks. I was surprised that I had to go out to my car, and turn on the radio during our conversation, wasn't expecting that. I think $ 77 is all its worth to me. If the guy would have said its more, I would have ditched it because of all the commercials. I like the comedy, already have lots of tunes on the ipod.

Cool. Guess I'll be using it soon

I actually prefer Cirrus and wished consumers could simply "choose."

Imho XM lacks the quality to make it worthwhile (even with the $77 deal). Music (dynamic range) is so compressed that even music over FM sounds bettter! So I'll pass on renewing and apply the renewal cost to buying a DVD-Audio (which has fantastic sound quality)!

I listened to it last week for the first time, and liked the wide selection of music. But the sound quality on some of the channels made me cringe. I still feel like an iPod with music and podcasts is more inline with my tastes.

Has anyone added their RDX to an existing XM subscription? My husband has XM in his TL and thinks we can add another car to it for a discounted rate, but can't find the information. Before I call and have to listen to a sales pitch I thought I would ask if anyone here has done it.

2nd-5th radios added to xm account are $6.99/month. slightly higher than the $77 deal which equates to $6.41/month.

Well apparently the $77 deal is here to stay for a while. I just got the $77/year flyer in the mail to try and get me back as a subscriber. The expiration date on it is March 15, 2007.
