Would removing body side moldings cause paint damage?

Just curious if removing the body side moldings runs the risk of taking some of the car paint along with it.

no it will not if u do it right ... make sure to heat the glue using a heat gun or a hair dryer and slowly floss it off ... after that use some goo gone to get the remaining residue ... then wax up the are for protection

I have to wonder, though, if the paint underneath is going to still match the surrounding factory paint. After all, for however long the bodyside molding was on there, the paint underneath was protected from the sun, dirt, etc.

P.S. Why would you want to remove the bodyside molding?

This is obviously one of those personal aesthetic things, but while the car does look "cleaner" without the bodyside molding, I also think it looks boring. There's that HUGE patch of vertical sheetmetal which desperately needs something to break it up--the bodyside molding does a perfect job. Without it, the RDX looks more than a bit slab-sided to me.

Only later did I notice I *slightly screwed up the alignment of the side moldings on the driver side.
