Why are people putting on mud guards as accessory?

I am really curious as to why are people putting on the splash guards as an accessory item?

My Canadian RDX came standard with them. Is it not the same for RDX in the US?

They are not standard in the USA, but I will probably get them (about US$70 if you install yourself). Mud spray from the tires is the main way my car gets dirty.

They are an accessory in the USA, but they came "standard" at my dealer. They were part of their dealer prep package. We've bought two cars there and both times they included their prep package without additional charge. It also included the wheel locks and cargo tray.

dealer prep is just another way to over charge all the items you mentioned. in no way did you get it at no additional charge. my wife's first TSX was also preped to includ mud guards, trunk liner, wheel locks and door edge protection. the amount charged for this prep was way more than any of those items combined. this is just another way to make some profit from you.

when we picked up the RDX, the prep included wheel locks and antitheft markings on various components of the car. i simply refused them. i was given a refund for the antitheft stuff, but 150 was charged for the wheel locks. i then returned the wheel locks, got the credit back. i passed by parts dept and purchased another set for less than half of that.

Not standard in USA. I put them on to keep the S from splashing on my RDX in LA. Lots of S in LA.

I know I got it at no additional charge because I bought mine when they first came out and were selling at MSRP - which is exactly what I paid and nothing more for these items. Refusing the package would not have changed the price of the car one penny.

Yeah - you really have no idea what my personal situation is and why it was a better decision to pay the higher price than sink more money into my previous car for repairs. Plus, I've had the added benefit of enjoying my car for many more months. Maybe it was worth it to you to wait and save a little $, but my situation was different and your comment that I did pay for the package was without basis and incorrect.

Lighten up...it was a joke.

That said, I know several folks who purchased the RDX just weeks after it was available and neither paid full MSRP. The fact that you were under duress with your previous vehicle and didn't want to sink more $$ into it doesn't prohbit you from negotiating with the dealer. Your right, I don't know your situation and frankly don't care to but no statement I made was without basis. If you pay full MSRP for any vehicle you better be getting one that's loaded.
