Back to the question at hand...
I currently have nearly 13,000 miles on a 2012 RDX SH-AWD that we leased in April of this year. I travel from San Diego to Bend, Oregon 4-5 times per year and have driven the RDX RT twice on this route, averaging 24 MPG each time with a total of 2,200 miles per trip. I think this is great especially since the elevation change is over 4,000 feet each way and we average around 70 MPH over the 2,200 miles. Better than I expected and I use the Turbo when I need it!

25mpg seems a good number for highway and that's what i have been getting. i noticed that tire pressures are key to RDX' good highway mileage. 40psi front and rear gives 25mpg just using cruise control at the cost of rough ride. using pulse & glide i get about 30-33mpg as demonstrated in my other thread with video.

unfortunately not everyone drives the same way. Its not like he'll suddenly live further from work to get better gas mileage. He'll be seeing the same kind of mileage throughout the life of the vehicle.
Indeed, when comparing my cousins 07 RDX to my 2010 TL SHAWD. He his avg gas mileage was 12.5-13mpg.. including numerous trips from norcal to socal and back, vs my TL SHAWD's 14.5mpg doing mostly city/local/suburb driving. Yes, the TL SHAWD is also faster, and about the same weight.
There's aerodynamics/drag involved, but I seriously doubt that is the sole reason that the FE is that bad on the RDX.

well with summer 0% ethanol gas now my mileage has gone up dramatically compared to winter time here. Currently averaging 27mpg or 8.8L/100km all highway. This will change once i start hitting the track this june and putting on some semi-slicks.
My 3.2L 4wd audi is getting 22mpg at the moment but that has a bit more city mileage on it. So far my RDX is getting the best mileage out of all my cars.

I get 20 MPG while my avg MPH is 20 because about 85% of my driving is done on a military base where the speed limits are either 15 or 25 MPH -_- though it's a lot better than the 16 my 97 RL use to get doing the same drive.

I had not been here in a while but have to agree with Mr Marco. The advantage of Turbo 4 cylinders is getting the power of a 6 while having the economy of a 4. The RDX engine is pretty good but we are "only" getting almost the power of a 6 cylinder while inheriting the fuel economy of a 6. That equation is probably the irritant for most people. (I like my RDX but it does take about the same amount of gas as my RL)

Today first time I took my 2nd hand 10' rdx to a long ride from Santa Cruz, CA to San Francisco and back - about 155miles. I didn't use AC and didn't exceed 70mph, driven very gently. I was driving alone and with some (maybe 100lb) luggage on one way.
It averaged out to 26.4mpg, I think its pretty descent considering the fact that I have spent about 40min in rush our traffic.

Came here to say this...not the CR-V part, but the "get a different vehicle" part. At best you will get 16mpg in city driving with this model year car

One thing you don't think about either is don't carry around a lot of junk in your car. Excess weight really adds up and although it might not make a huge difference, the sum of all of the above might get you back to where the car should be. The biggest factor of all is your driving style. No jackrabbit starts, don't be heavy on the throttle and stay out of boost. But it's no fun driving that way

I just bought my 2007 RDX with 22,000 miles on it. I am a hypermiler and I get consistently 26-27mpg over a four hundred mile trip on the interstate. I live in Florida, which is flat and at sea level, the ideal spot to get good gas mileage. It is hard and not much fun to get that mileage consistently. I try to make a competition to exceed the last trip. I can't wait to get a tune to get more horsepower and mileage.

Just got back from my first long (1,700 miles) road-trip (vacation in the RockyMountains)in my '09 (148k miles).
I averaged just shy of 23mpg. Considering that I kept it in Sport Mode while ascending/descending the mountains and that I was flogging it much of the way up the hills, I'm pretty pleased!
It was an absolute blast on the passes. The only thing that passed me on the steep grades was a turbo Integra, and I held my own against him!

When I had my 2011 rdx I would average around 16 mpgs, on a road trip to Florida (all highway driving) 20-21... Now with my 2015 3.7 V6 Q50S AWD just did a trip to Pittsburgh (390 miles one way), average 29-30 mpgs... I was amazed...

My 2007 RDX gets the same poor gas mileage on the first day I picked it up as it is now after 8 years of ownership, ~ 20 mpg mixed driving.
I really do like the RDX, but the poor gas mileage of the turbo engine can be really frustrating.
My other car, 2015 Mercedes CLA 250, 2.0L turbocharged engine with 4-matic AWD, gets about 32 mpg mixed driving.
I think the 5 speed trans in the RDX and also the full time AWD really sucks away the gas mileage. I think with a 8 speed DCT and real-time on demand AWD, the turbocharged RDX would fair much better in fuel economy

First let me say that my in-car system tells me I average 22.7 MPG
I drive 60 miles a day round trip to work, 4 days a week. It's 75% highway.
I have had my in car system say 25-26, with 250 miles on it, if I am only commuting to work. Once I start doing an city driving, that number drops drastically. I have been increasing my "lifetime mpg" for quite some time, as I have learned to drive it more economically. Realistically, its like 20 MPG if I were to actually calculate it at the pump.

I also see 20 mpg in mostly highway driving. Admittedly, I do not baby this thing on the road. I have a 170 mile round trip commute from southern NY to central Jersey in quite a bit of traffic. I used to do this commute 2x a week, now I'm up to 3-4 usually.
2011 AWD with 91,400 miles. My commute is too long.
Very few problems, though, so I'm happy.

Just took a long distance trip. Mixed driving but mostly highway. I got 21.4mpg. In city driving, I am getting 14~15mpg. But I feel like it's getting better mpg than what computer says as I don't fill up as frequently as my other car. Maybe a bigger fuel tank? I had a lot of stuffs in my car for the road trips and also I have bunch of stuffs in the cargo in normal day to day driving. So there is a room for an improvement. But I would not have bought a SUV if I am not going to use the space it provides!!
