Volume Knob Issues

The main console volume knob for the radio that controls the volume, bass, tremble, etc only changes the setting/volume by 1 number no matter how times I turn the dial. The steering wheel volume control works great and every other button on the radio face work fine too. Any suggestions??

Are you referring to the multi-function knob that controls the navi, or the smaller volume knob on the radio faceplate?

The smaller volume knob that controls the radio faceplate. My RDX does not have the navi feature. The knob is responsive to turning up and down the volume but it does not increase it by more than 1 number. The steering wheel volume control works fine without problems. I just bought it and the Acura dealer told me to bring it in but I was just curious if there was an easier fix...? Thanks

Unlikely.. sounds like the potentiometer underneath the knob is broken.

Hope they fix it under goodwill since you just got the car.

Can you elaborate on how the repair procedure is done and what it may cost for parts? Will it need a new radio unit? I've never heard of this problem before

Don't think it's something that can be easily fixed as the part is likely not sourced out.. Go to dealer or buy a new/used radio unit.

Dealers don't really "fix" things like this. I suspect they will simply want to replace the entire radio unit. I imagine it will cost a lot. If you just bought it, did it come with a warranty? Even if it didn't, hopefully if you make enough noise, they'll fix it for you.

Try cleaning the potentiometer. If it's located beneath the knob just pull the knob off and spray some noncondutive electronic contact cleaner in the volume shaft (sparingly) and turn the shaft back and forth to clean it. Let the suff flash off before trying it.

This works for 2g tl might work for you.

Curious if this worked for OP? My wife's '10 RDX non-navi has radio issues similar to OP. Sometimes everything works, sometimes the preset buttons, tune/seek buttons, and volume stop working on the console. Steering wheel stuff works just fine 100% though.
