TPMS and winter set-up, need explaination

Hey folks, a proud new owner of a 2011 RDX coming from a 2005 TSX.

I've done a bit of reading and searching on the forums about TPMS; however, I'm still confused about how exactly they work when needing to switch out rims and tires.

I'm planning on dropping down to a 17" set-up for winter and was wondering what I need to do from my end for the TPMS. I'm confused if the sensors go into the tires from what I read, or is it the valve stems?? And as I've read I need to pick up new sensors for new tires.

I know I need to find compatible sensors as well, so if getting CRV rims/steelies and tires, is there anything else I would need?

Thanks

The valve stem incorporates the TPMS sensor.

If you want to make a clean, simple switch between winter/summer tires, buy 4 new TPMS valve stems and put them in the winter wheels. Buy the valve stems first and make sure the winter wheels will accept the TPMS stems (most new wheels will).

I noticed that my RDX will interrogate the TPMS sensors, even when the wheels are on the floor 4 feet away. Try to store the unused wheel set as far as possible from the RDX, so that the sensors will go into sleep mode.

Thanks, I just wanted to confirm that this is that part that I need because when I'm searching for the tire pressure sensor other parts come up as well?

I've seem to have found the part number "42753STKA04". Is that all I will need?

If you look closely at the parts diagram, you can see that item 4 (42753-STK-A01) includes the sensor and item 7, the rubber grommet.

However, item 5 (42754-STK-A01, the nut) and item 6 (42755-STK-A01, the washer) are separate. You will need the nuts and washers to secure the valves to the wheels.

Some places may include the nuts and washers with TPMS orders. Check with the place you are ordering from to be sure of getting all of the parts you need.

Since you guys are talking about winter wheels and TPMS sensors and such, what would happen if I didnt install the sensors on my winter wheels? (this will be the first vehicle ive owned that has these sensors)

^TPMS/SH-AWD error on the MiD.

Don't be cheap, it's a worthy product. Just buy the proper TPMS sensor and keep an eye on the pressure. If you don't use nitro, when the temps drop, so does the tire pressure.
