Thanks for the RDX Info!

Hi everybody! I've spent a few months reading up on information posted in this forum and I have to say that it really helped me make my final decision to buy a 2008 RDX a couple of weeks ago. I would have posted sooner, but I've been busy having a blast driving around in my new RDX

I don't think I've actually put the turbo to the test, I wanted to wait until I broke the car in, but hell ya, this is a fun car to drive!

the turbo kix in in bout 55-65mph. But dont try to hindge it as much - dont want to drain GAS!

crap, first oil change???? I thought for sure I'd be good to go after 1,000 KMs (sorry, don't have my handy-dandy converter to Miles) ) I'm in Calgary, Canada can't wait till it snows, then we'll see how this SHAWD really handles So far, so good. You will absolutely love the RDX, for me, it was the best choice out there, hands down.

just dont redline it for the first 600 miles, that's all - that's the recommended break in period. you probably wont want to beat on your new car even after the break in period

that turbo is gonna kick in anyway - you wont be able to resist... enjoy it!

Well, for the factor is..ALthough acura sayz theres no break in period,
if plan on keeping the car for the long run n take care of it.
My "OPINION"
is that - relax on it for a bit - hit up near - maybe 3000-4500miles, then ease into it
u dont want to start the car n STEP!

Relax is my middle name... the poor sales guy didn't even want to come for a test drive. The manual (yes, I've read it ) says during the first 1000 kms to avoid full-throttle starts and rapid acceleration. Hello...have these guys driven the RDX??? Have I mentioned that I love this vehicle?

The turbo "kix" in at any speed. Almost impossible to avoid that and accelerate at all. but the break-in period is not so much for the turbo as it is for the engine itself. You really just want to avoid WOT and vary your engine speed dring break-in. Some say to wait till your first oil change because of the metal shavings that are released during the breakin period, but thats what your oil filter is for. I think the manual also says to avoid heavy breaking for a couple hundred miles too. And most importantly, don't change the oil early on your first change!

Glad to hear you're having fun and welcome shadowgirl!

Glad your lovin' your new RDX. The turbo, as you've no doubt found out, kicks in almost immediately with just a bit of throttle. You'll also find the RDX is great in snow and ice.

yeah, Just bout rite Sasair.
I guess for the factor of wanting to take care of the car, I'm hoping to keep the car for the long run, so def. want to keep it in great condition.

OH QUESTION - DID ANY ONE buy the (UNDISCLOSED) EXTENDED WARRENTY For the RDX? IF SO, how mUCH MORE IS IT? and what are the details?

So tru about the turbo sasair! I've never had a lead foot, but I find there's quite a nice acceleration with the RDX. Now if my left foot can stop searching for the clutch, I'll be alright! The emergency foot brake is conspicuously close to where the clutch should be, and after driving a standard for 15 years, old habits die hard! Thanx for all the welcome posts everybody!

Nyjumpman...I didn't get the extended warranty, but the dealership should have a pamphlet with pricing. I seem to recall that for an extra year, it was around $1,000 CDN, but don't quote me on that! To be honest, I don't find much value in the extended warranty, but I understand why you might want to have it since you're planning on keeping the RDX longterm. Just as a comparison, I've had my Accord for 10 years, and didn't buy the extended warranty for that vehicle, and everything's been great.

yeah, I figure, well. I own a 2000 Honda civic, but i plan on gifting it off to my sister. The thing's been great. I've added Pioneer D2 NAVi/mp3 cd system
w/ PIAA p3000 Tri-beam fog/driving lights on it, and alloy rims. The car's in tip top - w/ just 70,000 miles on it.(hence its kinda like saying i barely drive 10000).
But time for me to move on
being 6'1 driving a civic is killing my back. so I needed sumthing slightly bigger, and also, I wanted to stick w/ a honda brand(ala acura). I trust em.
I've tried everything from BMW, to Benz, to Audi. Price range killz me.
This one is actually affordable.
I disliked the mazda CUV, dont know why. felt to narrow, and the driving was iffy and was noisy. Ive pretty much went to every dealer and company. And I had to come back to Acura/Honda. ( i wanted to give myself a chance to try new cars, but they all felt IFFY).
Acura RDX was a way to go.

As for the extended warrenty, I want to be able to be careful with the car.
I expect myself to do the same w/ the civic, in terms of miles a year.
probably 8000-10000. I'm gona take care of this car

(ANY body added external bumper guards?) not the HUGE metal ones that stick out, but the hard plastic ones that cement stick into ur bumper?

(anyone else think or bought the EXTENDED WARRENTY)

Welcome to the RDX group... what interior and exterior color did you get? Tech or non tech? did you add any accessories? What's your MPG?

Here's a little history about mine...

1 - 2008 black exterior with ebony interior with tech package

2 - Just got 600 miles on the car since August 11th 2007

3 - Bought the mud flops and floor mats from ebay. Now thinking about running boards for $430 without labor.

4 - When I first got the car, I only got ~14 mpg, but now I am getting ~16 mpg. Can't wait to see 21 - 23 mpg that other owners claimed they got.

Enjoy your ride.

I bought a Carbon Bronze Pearl / Ebony, though I was seriously considering the Taupe interior. Here in Canada, apparently the mud guards come with the vehicle, though at the time when I picked up my RDX, I didn't know that, and thought I scored an extra! Also bought the cargo liner, since I have a german shepherd, figured it would help with wear and tear in the back. I'm at about 1700 kms now since August 23rd, finding every excuse I can to drive somewhere! As for mpg, not sure how to caculate since we're on the metric up here, but I'm getting around 11L/100kms so far, which I think is decent.

The mud guards are standard in Canada?? I thought I scored a bonus too.

11L/100km (21mpg) is pretty good. I've been doing 100% city driving the last two weeks and getting 17L/100km (14mpg)...but I started playing with the paddle shifter so that might be why.

Thanks for the conversion Boon, that is pretty good mileage considering it's city driving. The paddle shifters are great, I've mostly used them to gear down around corners and to give the brakes a bit of a breather going in traffic downhill.
