Temp gauge position?

Hi all,

Where does your temp gauge normally sit when at operating temp? Mine's about 2 clicks below half. Curious if that is normal.

Thanks,
Matt

The gauge does not rise in direct proportion to the actual temp. Basically 7 bars encompasses the entire normal operating range of the car. Long hill climbs might temporarily raise it a bar or two, but if you're consistently above or below 7 bars, you may want to get it looked at.

Mine sits right at 7 bars. It's strange to me... I've never had a vehicle where normal operating temp didn't fall in the middle of the gauge. It just makes it easier to notice when something is wrong.

Two bars below middle is normal and I agree it's an utter annoyance.

They just want you to think that the RDX is as cool as a cucumber. But here's a rough breakdown of what coolant temp each bar is, up to the top of 7 bars anyway. I wasn't in a position at the time I did this to get the car warm enough to 8 bars (although I've gotten to 9 bars on some long climbs). This was done by reading the torque app temp side by side with the actual gauge and taking note when the bars increased vs actual temp reading. So, maybe a +/- degree C or two for margin of error.

1 bar: < 138.2
2 bars: 138.2
3 bars: 147.2
4 bars 154.5
5 bars 159.8
6 bars 163.4
7 bars 167 - 203+

So 7 bars is around 350° F? I think I need a bigger radiator.

Had C stuck in my head! But I'm sure you know what I meant.

Slightly-related story - a buddy of mine was making pizzas as a house he was watching, and could not figure out why they were getting absolutely torched in the oven even when cooking for less than the recommended time. He had it set to 350. Turns out the person that lived there was from Europe and happened to have an oven that you could configure in degrees Celsius. Not sure if the oven ever actually made it to 662 degrees F, but it sure tried.
