RIP Starter??
Hey everyone, my 08 RDX just gave out on me at the gas station. it's been giving me starting issues for the past 2 months. It struggles to crank over, especially in the hot days. It currently turns the lights on perfect so no battery shortage. Could this forsure be the starter? Thanks for the help in advance!

Start by testing the battery as heat might reduce its available capacity in line with symptoms.
In my case the starter only struggled to start with bad battery a couple of times, then did not start at all with the new good battery.
Starter is located below the intake, relatively easy to test separately, especially by a mechanic...

Did you check the voltage of the battery while starting? If the battery drops to low it will only crank. If you don't get a crank check fuses, starters don't just go out. In 12 years I've only had one starter go out.
I had a car die on me driving and it was just a 10amp fuse

I recently changed alternator 2 weeks ago & tested the battery. Only the alternator had low voltage but battery was good. The car struggles to crank as if the starter isn't pulling through. All electrical work fine

I had the same issue when buying my car, alternator went out and battery issues. Car has ran great ever since for a year. If you were having alternator issues no doubt your battery suffered. What voltage are you getting when the car is off vs when cranking?

Null and proud of it
Test the battery and charging system but if a jump doesn't help... It's probably the starter... Mine would drag during extreme temperatures, cold or hot.
It it has been staring slower more and more lately that could also be a sign your starter is failing or dragging.
Test the battery and alternator first though. Usually these symptoms can mimic one another often making it difficult to diagnose.
You can have a free battery/alternator test performed at most AutoZone, O'Reilly, AdvanceAuto, ETC.... Locations...

My car cranks slow in semi-cold weather even with a fresh battery (20-40 degrees F). My mechanic has said it's most likely the starter showing some wear, but that unless it's binding or failing to crank completely, I should be fine for a while yet. The starter motor and other components do wear out eventually, but beyond battery and starter there are other possibilities. Weak ground, other wiring issue, etc. Before you pull the starter, inspect all bolts and the ground wire to make sure everything is good and tight.
