Rearview autodimming mirror accessory

The RDX does not come with the autodimming rearview mirror. So does anyone miss having it (since I believe the rear windscreen is tinted black (privacy glass)?
Or did someone get the accessory autodimming rearview mirror?

Yea I got it and love it. I have gotten spoiled and used to having them in my vehicles. It also has a compass in it which is cool. Worth it IMHO.

I posted a DIY for it a little while back. It is really easy to install.

My 2002 Lexus had one. I am missing mine now and thing it is CRAZY that a "luxury vehicle" does not come with that standard - along with a few other missing luxury items.

I did not think I would miss it.

I do!!!

I was just telling my wife last night as we drove along with bright headlights behind me that I didn't miss the auto-dimming mirror on my last SUV because it really didn't dim the light well enough. While I have to reach up to manually set the RDX mirror to dim, it does a much better job.

I was used to a compass too and asked the Acura salesman if the RDX had one - he just pointed to the NAV system with this questioning look on his face.....

Yep, he's got a point. No need for a mirror compass IF you have the tech package..

For CAD500, to have it installed, I think that is pretty steep.

Anyone knows where I can purchase a factory unit online?

I clipped a widescreen clip-on rear mirror on the stock mirror as I am so used to the widescreen view (can't drive without it ). It has a light tint on it as well. So, with the tint on this clip-on and the tint on the rear windscreen, I don't really have a problem with the lights from back at all so far

I am actually thinking of the possibility of having one installed in the Seattle area dealerships. They could have one installed @ USD300.00 (probably tax included as well). This is way better than the CAD500.00 + 14% tax here in Canada!

$300.........not sure what you are referring. I am talking about those $30 or less clip on widescreen mirror which you can find in auto accessories store

Oh, I meant the factory rear-view dimming mirror.

It is so much more expensive to have one installed here in Canada. But looking at the installation instructions, it does not seem too difficult...

Found the OEM day/night mirror on ebay, brand new unit, from an acura dealer in US. Will ship to Canada. Total cost after shipping ~ CAD250.00. More than half the price as that sold in Canada (~CAD500.00 + tax). Will probably order that when my RDX comes in.

Hopefully the installation is not that difficult.

Yeah, the unit I am referring to is an automatic dimming unit. Most of my cars all have the automatic dimming mirror, seems weird that this RDX does not.

Yes it has manual dimming mirror as standard. I think I have flipped it once in 10,000 km's of driving, probably half or more of that mileage in the dark.

Yeah, I see a lot of people here indicating they don't miss it at all.... but this is after all a luxury, albeit entry luxury, vehicle. So why did Acura have to make it an option?
Just like the passenger power seats, it is not even available!

I had the dealer install it after the fact and am looking back now with no regrets. It works well and removes an annoying variable during night time driving. The compass is also useful at times. Finally, I drove an RDX loaner recently with the standard mirror and it seemed less well-built. The image in the mirror vibrated while the upgraded mirror is more solid. This may have just been the loaner but in any event, the auto-dimming mirror is expensive but high quality.

I recently got a loaner RDX from the dealer and it had the standard mirror, and I hated it. The image appeared completely distorted to me. I didn't notice this when I bought my RDX and it had a standard mirror, but I notice it now. Anyway when I bought mine I didn't like the mirror and a few weeks later I installed the auto dimming mirror, and I love it. makes a world of difference for me and my tastes. Don't know why it costs so much from Acura though.

My last car had not only the autodimming rearview, but the side mirrors dimmed as well. The side mirrors was what made the option invaluable as without the auto-dimming coating there is no way to avoid the glare in the sideview mirrors normally.

People are scaring me now with tales of distortion in the rearview. I haven't noticed anything off on mine, but now I'll have to check it and see if I just haven't been very observant.

Side Mirror Tinting

Does the RDX have the tinting on the side mirrors? If not--that's a problem.

Yeah it's too bad they don't offer a side view mirror that has autodimming, an electrochromic mirror would be great to have for reducing glare, especially on the driver's side.

My wife had it in her old Maxima. She kept complaining that the RDX didn't have it. Had it installed yesterday by the dealer. Now she is happy.

mav,
I installed the auto dimming rear view mirror myself and it was fairly easy, maybe 30 minutes. The posts on this site for DIY stuff is great, thanks guys.

I had the autodimming mirror in my TL and I had to have it replaced twice because it seems to 'burnout' after a while where the area that dimmed would decrease after a few years.

So I am not missing the mirror that much with the tinted back window helping to reduce headlight glare of cars behind me.
