RDX ECU / boost upgrade??
RDX ECU / boost upgrade??
Picked up my white diamond base last friday. Great vehicle.
Just wondering if anybody has heard any rumors of any pending ECU chip upgrades that are going to be available for the RDX? Just to give us a BIT more power
Maybe if we're really nice to APR they could do one for us.

Sooner or later I'm sure somebody will come out with an ECU upgrade for a bit more boost without affecting driveability.
APR is nice though being undetectable to the dealer!
Has anybody tried playing LIGHTLY with a boost controller? Apexi, Greddy, etc. Just to satisfy us for now.
I wonder what the boost curve looks like... it almost feels like after 5,000 RPM it really isn't running much boost at all; like how stock 1.8T feels when boost tapers off.
Still a great vehicle though.

Phoned Hondata- Said they haven't even had a chance to look at the vehicle yet. But probably!
CGTSX2004: So a nice Greddy or Apexi boost controller wouldn't exactly work? Pardon my ignorance, I've been out of the loop for a few years

Darn.
That's what one of the Hondata dealers said; that they will probably do a flash so you can run your own boost controller.
I sent an email to GIAC as well as some others to see if they have any plans to develop an ECU chip for the RDX.

Got an email back from GIAC, pretty generic response though:
Hi,
Thank you for your email and for your interest in our products. Unfortunately we do not offer tuning products for the Acura RDX, but thanks for checking. Have a good day.
I asked them if they PLANNED on developing anything for the RDX. Obviously they don't have anything for it yet; the RDX is brand new!
We may need to plan a mass email to one of the companies to peak their interest

ECU stuff...
Most likely Hondata will develop something. Unfortunately this probably wont happen until the TSX-T comes out. There really isnt much of a market for performance upgrades on a RDX. As much as we would all like it.
TurboXS and UTEC may be worth contacting.
APR, GAIC, etc all tune VW and Euro cars, they wont make a RDX map.
I would recommend staying away from Manual Boost Controllers or Electronic Boost Controllers.

Some proof:
A few years ago a member of clubRSX went to Japan where he got a tour of the Honda facility. There he saw them testing what he called an AWD/Turbo Accord. Now we all know that the Euro Accord = Acura TSX. But we all thought it was a cool idea, but didnt believe it much.
Then the RL comes out w/ SH-AWD. so the AWD claim was possible.
Then this year the RDX comes out w/ SH-AWD and the 2.3L Turbo.
The pieces are all there, they just need to shove it into a TSX to compete with the Legacy GT, Mazdaspeed 6, etc

Care to tell us how you know?
Well at least this is what my sales person has told me.
We know the MDX is coming out with it. That will make 3 vehicles out of Acura's line-up of 5. At that point it's no longer a differentiating feature but now almost a standard feature. Since Acura is the only one that has it and it adds to the safety of the vehicle it makes sense to put it on the redesigns of the other two. We may not see it on the TL Type-S but when they redesign the TL, I'm betting we'll see it. After all, Acura is all about sharing parts and systems between their systems to cut costs. All of their cars were front wheel drive. Why not make them all AWD?

Sales people don't know shit. I usually end up telling my sales reps everything about the cars they are selling.

Check the other thread: "Email from Turbo XS!"
Help us find somebody to drop their car off for a day at Turbo XS in Maryland.
They end up with some free stuff, and we all get some RDX products.
Not sure how close Maryland is to New York... Maybe you want to do it! Can't we find somebody who wants some free stuff and help the rest of us out?!
Turbo XS seemed like they had a sense of urgency...
