QUESTION: paddle shifters - delay ?

Although my RDX is a couple of years old, until last week I never gave it full throttle, when using the paddle shifters (only when in 'auto-shift' mode).

And no matter how much, or how little throttle I use, the 1-2 shift will delay for 500rpm before shifting, after 'triggering' the up-shift paddle. And does not matter at what rpm I trigger the shift. The 2-3 shift only delays about 100rpm.

So when I did a 1-2 shift at 6500rpm the engine hit the rpm limiter (at just under 7000rpm).

Is this NORMAL? is the electronics just slow? is the tachometer slow? does your RDX shift like this? and no, I did not try a high rpm shift for the 3-4 shift, as that would be what, 110mph?

Mine has a longer delay on the 1-2 shift as well. Perhaps it's a mechanism to make sure you don't shift too quickly but I wish it was only limited to the really low rpms.

Strange I noticed no delay. In fact the 5at on my rdx is faster shifting than the one my TL. I would say 500ms shift times. Only issue is rough shifting from 5->4.

Mine also has a delay. There is a 1 second delay between 1-2 shift. However, shifts from 2-3, 3-4 and 4-5 have less delay. Downshifting from 2 to 1 is a bit rough.

I have also noted the delay and rpm rise in the 1 - 2 shift. It is a delay from paddle signal to activation just as you describe. I would surmise that it is normal and is coded in the trans software. Subsequent shifts activate within about 0.5 second.

I use the paddles in full manual mode and mostly for WOT acceleration. I full manual, I have to be careful to shift 1 - 2 early enough to avoid bouncing off the fuel cut-off and the subsequent screaming decel.

your not supposed to shift from 2->1 thats a death blow to your tranny. shaved thr gears right off in my 135i shifting 2-1 by accident at the track.

^ in our '11 RDX downshifting is blocked/prevented until reaching the proper/safe rpm range. You can try to downshift into first but until you slow your roll to ~22mph it won't shift.

Death blow, really? Shaved the gears right off? Thats amazing!

Back to the subject, I have not paid attention to this detail, yet. Thanks for pointing this out DC. So you'd need to shift ~6k? To actually shift by 6500? I will see if ours behaves the same and report.
