Oil Life ???
Oil Life ???
My CBP is just over month old and has 1600 Miles on it.
The Oil Life gauge already says 60%.
What does everyone elses say and should this be normal? Seems it's dwindling pretty quick.
Does this mean as soon as I hit 10% I'm going to need an expensive oil change right away? Or do I just add a can of Mobil Oil? I was under the impression that oil changes are less frequent because of the synthetic. Any help in this would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks.

With the tech package:
When the oil ilfe is 15% or less you will receive warnings that service is due soon. below 5% and it will tell you service is due now.
With base model:
below 15% will show you the wrench maintenance minder symbol. below 5% and you'll see the word SERVICE.
You should get your oil changed before it reaches 0% and starts giving you negative numbers. You should not just "add a can" which I don't think they come in cans, but you need to change the oil and filter. You can do this at the dealer, which will cost a bit more, or at any oil change shop. Just make sure you use the correct type of oil, which so far is only Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w30. You'll have to pay extra for that type of oil, but most any oil change facility has it. You could also do it yourself if so inclined. Just remember that if you don't get it done at an acura dealer, make sure you follow the directions in the service manual for resetting the maintenance minder system so you know when to do your next oil change.
With just over 700 miles on mine, I'm at 80% oil life. I, too think it's dropping quickly, but like sasair says, it calculates based on your driving habits. At this pace, I will need an oil change by 3500 miles or so, which is at the low range of a typical change.

So theoretically someone with zero miles could need an oil change. which is true.

Curry acura will even sell you a do-it-yourself kit for changing the oil and doing minor tune-ups.

So with this in mind I'd say that it could become a warranty issue if you did something wrong, like not using Mobil 1 or equivalent, or maybe even by not using a genuine Acura oil filter, but again I think they'd have to prove the oil filter you used wasn't up to standards.

Add a can? Err... You have to drain it out and replace the filter, as has been said before.
The MID is also tuned for the engine... The Turbo Uses a water cooled oil lubricated(and cooled) bearing. Heat brakes down oil, even synth, and turbos get very hot as they can spin at 150K RPM+(not sure about this ones speed).
I would at the very least go to a Honda dealer or a known mechanic. In all probability Jiffy Lube will fuck up if you use them regularly.

Their have been MANY horror stories surrounding jiffy lube, many more than at your local Honda or Acura dealership. But go ahead, go to jiffy lube, take your chances.

I have used a local jiffy lube quite often as I changed my oil about every 4 weeks. I have never had a problem, the owner is always there. I would never take my S2000 to the dealer because I don't want anyone taking my car for a spin unless it is completely necessary.

I know first hand, the same people who apply for a job at a Honda/Acura dealership as lube techs apply for Jiffy Lube.
To the OP sorry for going off topic that will be my last post in this thread regarding this...
Mike if you would like to further continue this discussion PM me. Semper Fi
I may be making an unfair assessment, but their have been a lot publicized incidents with jiffy lube in particular. I'll stand by saying go to your Honda/Acura dealership or a known mechanic if you do not do so yourself.

My RDX not even 3000 miles yet, but the service light is on and display oil life 15%. Is it nomal ? How often I need to change the enigine oil ? I also took to the dealer and they reset 100% without oil change, for 2 weeks now oil life still 100%...hmm...what is going on now ? will find out if it go down faster or stuck at 100%.
I guess I'm not very trustworthy anymore...

The oil change is easy, takes less time than driving to the shop, and lastly, from personal experience on more than one occasion, I just don't trust the talent that's changing my oil at the dealer or commercial oil change establishment!
Just my .02,
John
