Oil Changes are to soon

Yeah, I know I could pull the owners manual out and look it up, but I rather get some other opinions.

My wifes 2010 RDX seems to need an oil change every 3000-3500 miles going by the dash indicator and the car isn't driven hard at all.

I would think that using sync oil it was go a lot longer. We had a BMX X3 before the RDX and that one went 15,000 between oil changes.

I just feel that it's way to soon and a waste of money every 3000-3500. I mean this isn't 1970 when cars needed an oil change every 3000 miles.

Our 2011 goes 5k between oil changes according to onboard indicator. That's generally with city driving. If we add in a bunch of highway driving we get 6000 to 6500 between changes. Seems strange that you are getting "flagged" at 3-3.5K.

I just buy mobile 1 and mobile m110 filter at autozone when on sale (often) at $32.99 for the combination. Piece of cake to change this oil... Takes 30 minutes max! so kinda enjoy it when the indicator signals...it's time!

Mine were around 6,500K miles.
Whatever driving style you guys have is making the MID tell you to do it sooner than the average. Is not as if you can just ignore it.....

Did you mean too soon? Have you read the owners manual? There may be reasons why this short interval is happening. Maybe read it and see.
I have read posts on this forum made by folks who feel they are smarter than an Acura engineer or computer. They use oil or fuel that does not meet spec and think this will save money. You could save 1 or 2 hundred $ per year as you void your warranty. It's your choice.

I change my oil every 3,000 miles no matter what. The way I look at it I rather spend $30 every time than having engine issues down the road. I have a Toyota Sienna we've had for 11 years with over 256,000 miles with no issues whatsoever.

One thing does not ensure the other. You could have done or at 5, even 6k and still have no issues. With the RDX using synthetic oil, and a computer running an algorithm based on your driving habits, it's pretty safe to just follow te MID

yup follow the computer. Short drives actually reduce oil life then longer drives. The constant warm ups (running rich) causes more fuel to dilute the oil which is one reason why the computer could be telling you to change your oil early.

3500 miles is not bad. The reason why your BMW went 15K is because they use oil that cost almost double what the RDX's synthetic oil costs and most likely a larger sump as well.
