Nitrogen Enriched, Shell Gasoline is Weird
Finished up the residual gas, with about 17 miles left on the meter, so i decided to fill it up with Shell gasoline, which is now "enriched with Nitrogen". Marketing hype? I have always filled up with Shell (before new stuff) or Cheveron Premium, and this Nitrogen enriched option is my first.
I know it's not suppose to give you horsepower, and it's more of a greater cleansing agent, etc, versus its competitors.
To make a long story short, my mpg PEAKED to about 37 MPG, right after I pulled away from the station, and lingered around the low 30's for the 1/4th mile. I have never peaked this high before, and the highest is typically around 24-26MPG, then it normally drops to about 18.x MPG. Even after pushing it a bit from light to light, it is stabilizing around 27-28 MPG.
I am not enthusiastic to see this aggressive peak in MPG, and I would be more worried about the fact that it peaks this high. I need to do some more driving and see where it really stabilizes. So far, I only have about 2 miles on the fresh fill up.
Anyone use the new shell gasoline, yet?

You know, I've noticed the same thing with Shell's gasoline. I know they advertise cleaning agents, etc, but I always felt that it was like snake oil.
But the mpg meter on the RDX doesn't lie. If I fill up with that stuff, I definitely notice a bit (3-4mpg) better mileage.

Prelude gets vpower and its happy with it
shell continually give me the best mpg in new england....a tank with hess nets a tank about 220-240, shell gives me about 260, same driving conditions, but never lower than 240, hess is a toss up where i actually end up
i guess the trade off - hess, in MA/RI is about 15-20 cents cheaper for 93 on avg than shell...hess was 2.00 93, down the street at shell & mobil was 2.23

cuz theres word they are gonna drop the 94 octane....which would mean 91 is the highest available so might as well switch over to vpower.

Mine ALWAYS spikes right after I reset it. I've had it in the 40s...but after 5-10 miles it slowly works it's way back down to a normal range. It seems very logical to me - it's sampling and then averaging. The more data points it accumulates, the more accurate it will be. I usually ignore it until I get 30-40 miles on it.

Yeah, 94 was stopped in Mass. a few years ago, so now it's 91 or 93, and as far as I can tell, they all have ethanol.
Interesting that Shell doesn't have ethanol in theirs, I never noticed. It's a bummer that the only local Shell station happens to run .08-.10 cents higher per gallon than anywhere else.

maybe, at our canadian shell stations (i've seen this posted at all shell stations here), regular contains up to 10% ethanol, mid grade up to 5% and vpower 0%.
I use it yearly, I sometimes fill up with other stations and its a massive drop in numbers especially in the winter, I think in the summer the concentration of ethanol is not as much in all stations here....
