new Lexus mini-SUV to compete with the RDX?

This has been rumored for a while. The vehicle sounds like it will be bigger and cheaper than the Infiniti EX, but more luxurious/refined than the 6-cylinder RAV4 (which has a pretty basic interior).

The front has a RAV4 look, but the tail is more like the Lexus RX. The spare tire is now inside the vehicle, like with the RDX.

Eww!

The front looks stupid, copy of the Rav4. Rear end is just weird.

exactly! it's based off the same platform, and also the awd system will prolly be the same as toyota's current awd system which is fwd biased and most of the time it'll drive like one as well. Who would want to buy a lexus badged rav4 for mid 30s max 38k (08 rdx is 36k with tech) when you can get a toyota rav4 fully loaded for 32k??? I don't see how people will justify being a rebadged lexus rav4 for more than a toyota rav4.

Where did those prices come from? I think Toyota is going to have to price this thing around $10K below the RX if they want anyone to buy it. The first link says they expect $30K, not mid-30s.

it's common sense. 30k, after everything is said and done would be around 34-35k, meaning if you get the base and you just add some small stuff + tax, and all those lil fees (of course not saying that deals can't be negotiated)

Doesn't the RX already compete directly with the RDX? Is this car even going to be sold in America? I just don't see a point selling a car that they basically already sell a better version of.

in either case, most of it looks like photoshop, but i could be wrong.

32k for a loaded RAV4 is rediculous, in my opinion.

The Lexus RX is a little bigger and more expensive than the RDX. This new car will be about the same length, but maybe a little narrower than the RDX and a few K less expensive. It will probably have a softer suspension, so may be attractive to people who think the RDX is too harsh.

I don't know, I kind of like it.
Having driven a lexus for 5 years, I would certainly consider it.

WOW! Talk about wheel gaps! Ugly, & it will cost more than 32K. I saw a Rav4 for 32k that didn't even have leather in it, & that was more than a year ago!

The RX is bigger than the RDX. They don't really compete with each other, if you like the way one rides, you won't like the other.

RX is smaller than an MDX, but they compete more directly.

I think those pictures are just artist renderings. No real pictures have come out yet. This is just what people think it might look like.

If those pictures are real, then how exactly does one open the trunk? It looks like the entire backside of the car is one piece.

The line for the rear hatch is down, just inside the lights, outside of the license plate, then accross the top of the bumper!

The link at the top of the original post in this thread says the photos are artist's impressions based on rumors about this vehicle.

Remember that the RX is due for FMC soon. My prediction, the RX will grow on size (as the Highlander did) and it will offer 7 pass seating. New entry level model to compete with RDX, X3, EX, LR2 and all the others that are going to come in to the market. Mercedes, Audi...

BTW I also belive that the Infiniti FX will grow on size...

The one, i think, that will shake things up towards the higher end of the market is the due out soon Benz GLK, will prob have the C class's v6's, good handling, supposedly firmly based on the 08 C class platform. im sure, however, price will be a factor for a nicely packaged version. it has some nice looks, but very boxy-ish, see the pic below

Looks smaller than a RAV4 (and about the same size as an RDX). But who know since it is just artist renderings.

Subaru Forester is getting bigger, too, for 2009, and they seem to be continuing their push upmarket.

What they couldn't come up with their own wheel design so they steal it right out of BMW's X3???

Now that's comedy!
