If I were you I wouldn't take either of those. Usually you can buy an extended warranty later on if you desire so no need to buy it now. And the exterior & interior protection, I feel, is just a marketing ploy to get you to spend more money with them. You can probably do whatever it is that they do for much less and have a much better result.

Nice, congrats!

1. I ended up getting a 7yr warranty. This car is a keeper...and I would get it if you're thinking long haul too. It's really more for piece of mind than anything.
2. I wouldn't bother on this one. The "protection packages" are usually just accessories that can be found cheaper online. I'd only get it if the package comes with something like body side mouldings and you're REALLY not comfortable with installing them yourself.

I'm picking my RDX up next week and the only accessory I got was the front spoiler....everything else is coming from Curry Acura.

I would skip on both, but that is just me. I passed on the extended wty with this and most every car I ever had. My MDX came certified in 2002 with the 7yr wty and I actually have used it after the normal 4 year wty - so it is nice to know it is there.

If you have to sell it before the wty ends, the extended wty adds value. The protection package does not.

Extended warranties are tricky. For example, at year five, an RDX may be worth about $19000 for example. The extended warranty costs you about $1000 up front. Add a five years of interest and you are at maybe $1250. So the extended warranty cost about 6.5% of the worth of the vehicle. That is pretty steep for two years of coverage. I doubt the extended warranty adds $1250 to the value of the vehicle.

(Don't forget, the extended warranties are worthless until the factory warranty runs out!)

Brizey - That's an excellent point...that's why I would suggest buying the extended warranty at the end of your regular warranty. My buddy who bought a Lexus Rx400h asked the sales guy if he could buy it later on and he said no problem so I'm sure it's the same here.

I am going to give you a different answer. The exterior/interior protection in my opinion was a good buy. My wife is pregnant and we bought an RDX in April for the baby. Our interior protection was gauranteed against stains. It says in the coverage plan that they would repair or replace the upholstery. The protection for the paint is awesome. I love this car, but I had washing and waxing. I know its a sin, but anyways I run the car through the car wash no swirls, no scratches, and ultra shiny. Plus, if I trade in the car to my dealer they will give me an additional 500 for the trade after the trade value has been negotiated. I am not sure what the product is, but I think it varies dealer to dealer.

3rd party extended warranties are often scams. They don't go into effect for several years from now and there is a non-trivial chance that the insurance company will not be in business then. Even if they are in business, getting them to honor the warranty may be difficult. If you really want an extended warranty, get one that is backed by Honda or Acura and is good at any of their dealers. These warranties might be a little more expensive, but should give you a lot less hassle if you ever need to use them. If you don't plan on using the warranty, then save your money and don't buy it to begin with. If you put your $1000 into a bank CD, you could make a tidy profit by the time the extended warranty would go into effect.

I bought the extended factory warranty from my dealer, but only because they have a deal whereby they will refund the entire purchase price if you never use it. I rolled the warranty into the 1.9% financing and took their deal.
