Light in the trunk

Does anyone know if the tiny light in the left side trunk is manual switch only ? or it can be setup to turn on when the trunk is open ?

Yeah. The two-position switch is either "light always off" or "light on when the trunk is open".

ok, I am going to try again. I thought I could only switch on or off....... not like those two lights inside the car which have three positions. On/Off/On when truck is open.....

If the tailgate is closed, the light should never come on. It only comes on when the tailgate is open, AND the switch is ON.

I absolutely agree with you but is it actually that way?
I will give it a try.

That is how mine works.

Light

With the trunk cover on the top, I can't really see if it is off after the tailgate is closed. I guess I need to remove it to confirm

I've actually had the back seats down and confirmed that when the tailgate is shut the light does indeed turn off.

Confirmed.

Yes, but does the refrigerator light really go off when you close the door?

Yes. I spent a night in the fridge just to make sure.

Thanks for doing this critical research! I sure would hate to open up the manual to read this for myself.

Maybe it's just me, but there sure are a lot of posts recently where people "assume" something wrong, when the only problem is that they haven't read the manual.

(not trying to be too harsh on acurardx) It just seems like the Bluetooth problem thread, the DVD-A glitch thread, the Outside mirror thread, are all better examples of this "I'm doing something wrong, but lets blame the car" mentality.

Haha but just imagine those days before the internet Colin. We'd all think something was wrong with the car and run back to our dealers to complain about it. I'm sure once enough of these complaint threads end with a "read the manual" solution, people'll get the picture.

It's like when I have a computer problem and complain to my friend at Microsoft. He always tells me to check the MS database first...and 95% of the time it's there.

Light in rear

Thanks so much for the post. I didn't even know the light was there until I read this. The switch was in the off position when I got my RDX, so it never came on. I thought it was mildly annoying that the rear was dark when I opened it at night. Now there is light!!!

Yes, there is light, but there is no 12V power port! Unless someone knows of a secret compartment

Having the light in the trunk is one thing but the intensity is so low that sometimes it renders itself useless (almost) especially with cargo liner although the liner has fishnet opening in the area of the light.
Does anyone think that the bulb can be replaced (with higher wattage rating) withour damaging the clear plastice lens or blowing fuse?

Now that would be a good retrofit. Maybe a larger light fixture all together, not just a bulb. Like you said, it would probably get too hot. Along with the larger light a power outlet would be cool too. Could be too much draw for the little light wires and fuse though, but a low powered device would probably work ok, like a phone charger, but why would you charge a phone back there....oh yeah, and it would only be on when the tailgate is open....just brainstorming here....
