Lack of catalytic converter heat shield causing cabin dash to heat up?

Hi acurazine,

My 2007 rdx heats up a lot in the circled area below, along the sides of that part of the dash too, where it is next to my legs. The catalytic converter heat shield is rusted out, could that cause this? Or something else?

I removed mine from my 2008, also rusted and rattling, and didn't notice any extra heat there.

I would guess the heater valve in engine bay is stuck open, so the heater core always has heat flowing through it.
