issues with my new RDX
issues with my new RDX
I've had my RDX for almost 3 months now. I love just about everything to do with this car except for a few issues.
1) gas mileage, i drive only city miles but I am averaging only about 8.9 MPG. Is this normal?
2) my info display came on saying I needed an oil change at only 2756 miles. is this normal?
3) is there any way to change the shift points? My car is continually shifting down, keeping the RPM very low, its terrible for trying to drive in the city.
Thanks pmdesign3

1) TERRIBLE gas mileage, you should REALLY get that looked at when you go in for that oil change!
2) Yes, It's normal.
3) Sport mode (the S on the gear shift) should hold gears longer but gear holding may decrease gas mileage, but since you may be shifting constantly, maybe not all that much.

are you driving the car hard? That would make sense with the oil change and mileage. My first oil change was around 6900.
You could put in in S and it will holfd the gear and does not use the overdrive

1) Abnormal and I would have taken my RDX back before now. You should manually calculate your fuel mileage for a few full tanks and see if it's a problem with your MID.
2) Seems a tad bit early, but the MID bases the service indicator on a variety of factors. City driving w/ plenty of stop and go would probably bring the service indicator sooner.
3) Above poster mentioned S mode which would help with the shift points and hold the gear longer.

I have had none of these problems. I get 18 miles per gallon city. My first oil light came on at 4000+ miles. Ether your RDX has some major bugs or you are driving the s**t out of it with a heavy foot on the gas peddle.
Interesting that you would complain about the cars desire to shift down, and bad MPG.
I have now had 3 of these 5pd autos from Honda, and they all like to get to 5th as soon as possible. Better mileage, you know.
But I would have to drive like a maniac to get 8mpg. Or maybe sit in constant gridlock?

damn.. 8?? how hard u driving the car? I drive a lot of city with some highway and I still get 14.8 mpg.. close to 15.. which is real bad considering that I came from a camry 4 banger. lol. Are you like constantly on a gas, brake, gas, brake kind of situation? like stuck in Time square in New york city all the time? That may be the reason why you getting such low MPG. Also, you would want your RPMs low if you want higher mpg.. just like what Lilfeat said. I say, bring it back to the dealership and complain. I read in some forum that some guy did that, and the dealership did something about it. Good luck.
