I have had my RDX for about 3 weeks and noticed recently that in addition to the hiss of the turbo there is a noticeable fluttering sound. It is only during moderate acceleration when the turbo kicks in. Has anyone else noticed this? What is it? Is it a problem?

 

I notice the same thing too when I hit hard on the turbo.

But this is my first turbo car, not sure if it is normal.

I am not sure if it is related.
On my first test drive at the dealer, the level of turbo noise was quite noticeable with more metal sound. At that time, I thought the noise was excessive but since only turbo I have driven was back in early 80's with TranAm, I thought it was naturally like that. However, on my second test drive, they had a replacement unit and it was very quite compared to the first one.
I am not sure whether the first one was 'broken' or what but that whole replacement of the RDX was kind of suspicious.
At any rate, I have white/taupe/tech now with 1500 miles and the level on noise is about the same as the first day. I hope it tays like that...

I don't mind the loud hiss of the turbo, it is this second fluttering/spitting sound when I accelerate in the 25-40 mph range. As much as I love my RDX, that sound is frustrating because it just doesn't seem right. Has anyone else noticed this particular fluttering noise during acceleration?

As a side note, I am taking my RDX in tomorrow to have them look at.

it is normal. just get used to it, turn up the stereo. lol.

im not sure if its a fluttering sound, but i hear a second sound other then the hiss... but i like it and used to it already haha

 

Yes, it is dependant upon the thickness of the downpipe, cold temperatures, and sound dedaning in the car. After I got an aftermarket DP, that was thinner it was a lot louder. Its 100% normal for a turbo to make those noises.

Yea its the turbo spooling, thats the flutter. All normal.
