Do these really add to the "performance"?

Do these add to performance - better handling, mileage or top speed?

Performance Front Underbody $385.00

Performance Rear Diffuser $329.00

And do you think these moldings are worth the price?
Body Side Molding $232.

Thanks for being patient - I gotta lotta questions and this forum has great insight!

Front underbody probably does reduce drag, but you probably can't tell the difference. The rear diffusser is functional piece of equipment, but not obvious enough to "feel" anything.

Both pieces do make a difference in the appearance of the RDX!

Moldings?

God bless typos.

I was discussing this with a couple of friends last night. The front spoiler is definitely more cosmetic than anything. You'd have to be going really fast to even benefit from the reduced drag. All it will really do (esp. in city driving) is add more weight to the car...theoretically reducing fuel efficiency.

All this according to friends of course...so if you want to argue...I've really got nothing to back it up. =)

I love my front spoiler though...makes the RDX looks a little more sporty and less "boat-like".

Honestly.. ground effects or body kits are mainly to attract those who want to make their car look better cosmetically... 90% of the time you wouldn't be thinking about whether or not it'll add performance or make you more fuel efficient. You just wanna look good.

example would be those who install HUUUUGE rear spoilers on their cars. Unless you are going like 200+ mph, you won't notice any performance upgrade. if anything you'll notice that the car feels slower...

You can get the side moldings for about $150 on EBay and install them yourself. They will protect your doors from parking lot dings.

The front and rear spoilers are entirely for looks. Some people like the looks; others think they look silly. There are some pictures in other threads. If they really did improve performance by a noticeable amount, they would come standard with the car. They can't cost much more to make than the standard bumpers.

I doubt that the front spioler adds anything but drag. The idea of a fron spoiler it to minimize the ammount of air under pressure that goes under the vehicle. This works on race cars because its only an inches from the pavement. That way you get lower pressure under the car, and higher pressure from above.

They say that you could run a F1 car upside down on the ceiling when it is at speed, because it creates so much downforce.

I think that is the principal.
