Cr-v
well I waited for the CR-V to arrive, checked it out yesterday and our decisoin has been made. 23K will get us a CR-V with everything we want. It handles well, gets 23/30 mpg, slightly more interior cargo space. I'll miss the RDX techo cockpit but it ain't worth 15K and an additional $800 - $1,000 a year is gas costs. If it got decent gas mileage, I would begin to consider the RDX again but it is just not a practical vehicle. OK, I'm ready to get flamed by the RDX zealots

i actually like the new crv's exterior... but i was never to crazy about the interior... looks kinda cheap and everything seems misplaced... i mean on the previous years... the shifter and e-brake were located at the most rediculous places ever haha... but its nice to see that the new model has navi and all... i would imagine its a good car cuz its a honda... good luck man... but ill tell ya... the rdx is amazing... i think its worth every penny... all my friends are like... y didnt u get the g35x, TL, and all those typical cars... and i just said... look at their material and look at mine... ride in mine and then u'll know.... n they all like .... oic werd i get ur point... so im happy ya know? im sure ull make the best choice for you and your family... good luck... let us know what u get and post pics of the CRV if u get that haha

crv
absolutely there are some things I do not like about the CRV including where they placed the shifter and not having a center console. the seats don't even compare with the RDX, in general the interior is a notch or two down from the RDX but the overall layout of things is fine. Actually, the steering wheel buttons are the same layout as the TSX (which we also have) and it uses the blue ambient lighting like the TSX as well. Anyways, maybe we'll get the 2010 or 2011 RDX after we have a CRV

No reason to flame anyone just because they have different priorities or values regarding the car they choose. I think the ones that get flamed are the ones that try to say the RDX is crap.

SEATS are waaaaaay more important than you think.
I lived with my CR-V for about 9 months (i bought it brand new) before I decided I had to get a new car. It just killed by back too much everytime I had to drive it for more than 30 minutes...and everyone else who sat it in it too.
Unfortunately, there weren't too many other options, so I was waiting for the RDX to come out before making the final decision as to what to buy in it's place.
I'm so glad I did because it's been perfect!!

Say you drive 15,000 miles a year and suppose you get a combined mileage of 20mpg on premium gas. That's 750 gallons, and with premium costing $2.50 a gallon (which is what it seems to be going for around here), you spend $1875 for gas in a year.
If you get 24mpg, that's 625 gallons and if you use regular gas at $2.30 per gallon, you spend $1438 for a difference of $437.
You can run the same calculation with an assumption of 20,000 miles per year and get a difference 0f $583.
If the price of gas goes down (I have the right to hope) the differences get smaller.
I'm not picking on you or your choice of vehicle because a lot of factors go into the decision. I just wanted to put up some real numbers on the mieage issue.

I think the CR-V is a 147 hp engine. That's why the mileage is better. The two cars are very different. I don't see how they could honestly compete. Any Honda is going to be a good car. I just couldn't stand the seats. What is weird is Honda always puts those silly armrest things on the front seats. Still, it's a good car. Enjoy it.

My neighbor just bought the CRV. He works at the Honda engine plant in Anna. I think it looks way better than photos suggested. I'm considering it, too. But I gotta say that after I had an RDX as a service loaner, I've been loitering around here a whole lot. Despite any reservations I have about it, it's just DAMN FUN.

Its 166 HP, and that is via the new HP rating (about 175 via the old system). That should be sufficient for most drivers, particularly in FWD form.

gas cost
"real" numbers were used to calculate the $800-$1,000 annual cost differential between the RDX and CRV. For us, it'd be roughly 25,000 per year, the cost difference between premium and regular is about .25 per gallon in northern CA, and if a fair average MPG to use for the RDX is 20, then for the CRV that would be about 27, not 24.
Anyways, that is only one reason, the other being the huge price difference of the vehecile itself, at least for our family. Of course, if money were less of a consideration for us I'd get the RDX! But the CRV is simply much more practical.
I do not like the seats either...

You know, that's one of the things I noticed driving the RDX for two days. VERY QUIET compared to my TL as far as road noise. Of course, I still have those verchacte Bridgestones on my TL.

I was also waiting on the CR-V release. Took it for a spin and decided on the RDX. The seats are NOT comfy at all. That is a must for someone with severe back issues like me.
I like the exterior.. but the interior was not good. I own a 2005 Pilot w/ Navi (trading it for a RDX end of this month) and its interior is quite nice.
Maybe Honda will focus on the interior of the 2008 CR-V. Honda makes great vehicles/rides no doubt about it..but..it's all about what you want and what you can/are willing to pay for.

If I were calculating it for myself, I'd figure 20mpg for the RDX and 25 for the CR-V, $2.30 a gallon for regular and $2.55 for premium. That gives a difference of $888 per year and if you want to count the CR-V at 27, the diff is over $1,000.
