Coolant

After 10 months and 18k miles I finally had to add about 1 cup coolant. I used Honda Type 2 50/50 prediluted. Brought it up to halfway between Min and Max full cold.

Coolant does normally vent small amounts at high temps or just after a cold start. That and with the lower ambient temps it was down to the Min line.

After noting that my coolant level was consistently low, almost nothing when cold and just below the low line when hot, for the last few weeks I finally took my car to the dealership to have it filled. I pulled over on the way there to check the level and it was, as usual, just below the low line. After waiting 30 minutes at the dealer, the service manager told be that my fluid level was not low and sent me on my way. When I stopped again to check it the level was now just below the full line. It slays me why dealers continue to think we are idiots and treat us as such. Obviously, someone filled the fluid while I was waiting. Did they just now want to admit it could be low with only 2500 miles on the odometer? I didn't care if they had to fill it, but honesty is very important.

Most dealerships seem to still be living in an era when they controlled all access to information (sort of like Dan Rather).

They don't seem to understand that excellent info and advice is now readily available worldwide and it bypasses their pathetic efforts to keep owners in the dark.

I still hear stories of Service Advisors saying "We've never seen this before" or "Your's is the only one doing it".

The irony is that, in treating the customer like an uneducated idiot, they are revealing themselves to be the fools.
