bye bye G35...hello RDX!
bye bye G35...hello RDX!
So after a 80 Jeep cherokee, 81 bmw 320i, 85 bmw 535i, 88 saab turbo, 90 nissan maxima, 94 nissan maxima, 99 nissan frontier, 02 vw beetle turbo S (don't ask) and a 05 infiniti g35 6mt sedan i have just brought home a new 08 rdx tech as my latest daily driver.
My main reason for the RDX was A. room for my dogs (real dogs not my peeps) and B. room for my mountain bikes. I looked at everything from the cx-7, ex, x3, a3 and just about every other acronym you can think of and i actually drove most of them. It came down to the RDX and the A3. These two are more similar then you might think. I settled on the Acura for several reasons but foremost i love the fact that with the Acura (my first) you basically get a loaded $6 burger right from the start, I simply added Cheese (tech package) and i was done. With Audi you must first start with a plain 1/4 pounder and add everything a la carte totaling a $10 burger only to find out half the toppings are not available in my state (CA). I left the Audi dealer frustrated, i left the Acura dealer with a new Acura.
I am very happy with the RDX so far and just wanted to let everyone know this. I tend to be overly critical and there are just not many things i have to complain about so far. Personally i could care less about auto headlights as i never used them in my g35, no power passenger seat is curious but hell i dont sit there so whatever. Power lift in the back? Come on guys...no one needs that! I do wish the "synthetic" aluminum bits were real...but i can tell you that the real aluminum in my g35 scratched so easily, but it did look nice. So no complaints. I also want to mention that driving the RDX compared to the g35 is a real treat! Seriously. I had the 6 speed sedan and it was like wrestling an alligator. The clutch was super heavy, 1st gear WAY low, there was no fluid lauch, thing hauled ass but not at all refined. In fact the RDX is the first automatic i have ever owned in my 37 years. I came from the DUDE=manual tranny camp and was never able to break out of that until now. I am happy to report though that i am doing ok in that regard thanks to the RDX's slick manual auto. My left foot still doesnt know what to do but thats ok. It is strange but i look at the RDX and think to myself that it is a little odd looking, not the fastest thing, not the biggest or smallest, not the most luxurious, or least, but for some reason i love the thing and cant wait to drive it again. Good sign. So for those of you still on the fence...take the plunge you will happy you did. And by the way i got an 08 for well under $33k w/tech new so the deals are out there right now.
Anyway, i am glad to be aboard and hope to give you all a more meaningful non rant, less self absorbed post in the future. Peace

Congrats on joining the club. I just picked up my RDX this past Monday and love it. Every day on the way to work and home I take the long way just so I can get some extra time in the thing. Bumper to bumper traffic...no problem...I'll just sit back in my comfy driver's seat and enjoy the sound system. I love this thing. Have fun with it.
BTW...$33k is awesome. Does that include everything out the door? I paid $37k even out the door including roof rack, mud flaps, wheel locks, all-season mats, taxes, doc, title, registration.

Re
$32,400 w/ tech, wheel locks, and full cargo liner-not including drive offs.
As for the other question, RDX compared to the G35, well other then the obvious differences (looks, cargo capacity) here is what i would say:
G35 pluses:
fast fast fast
tons of extra power
stable over 150mph-(several times between San Diego and LA through camp Pendleton) I actually hit 160- 5mph over the governer speed going down hill
great engine sound at speed (love the sound of the timing chains whining)
GREAT stearing
stops on a dime
g35 minuses:
lack of refinement (truly the Japanese hot rod)
aweful clutch-super heavy
aweful clutch spring sound
materials inside not great
GAS PIG!!- i averaged 12mpg
**the gas thing is funny because i read a lot of RDX owners concerned about gas mileage, i feel like its a Prius compared to the G35
RDX pluses:
way easier to drive
more comfortable
better seats
better anything electronic
better gas mileage
better fit and finish
RDX minuses:
not as fast (but definately not slow)
on the fence about the brakes but i was spoiled with the G's stoppers
couple of things should be in there standard that aren't
I HATE that you cant turn off the GPS diclaimer permanently (you can't right?)
SCORE:
G35 (after 3 years)- 7.5
RDX (after 1 week)- 8.5

Im glad your enjoying your RDX as much as most of us here do it truely is a great vehicle. I put my RDX (before intake) against a couple of G35's and the results were..... lets just say the G owners were very impressed with the speed/power of the RDXturbo...
sik price...
i think its funny but odd that ALOT of people consider the G35 when shopping an RDX, or move from a G to the RDX etc.
hell...if i didnt buy the RDX i was going to buy a G35....is there any sense to this ...lol im just curious as to why these 2 carsalways seem to be in the same list

I too considered the 07 g35x when looking for a car, ultimately I got the rdx. I never got to test drive the g35x when I checked it out, and that's probably because I sat in the RDX and it was love at first sight. Loved the exterior, opened the door and loved the whole interior and that was a done deal. After I got the rdx, I checked out the g35x again and all i can say is that it's more luxurious than the rdx but i still much prefer how big the interior feels for the RDX. If I was to get another car at this point, it'd most likely be a g35 (coupe or sedan), which has an awesome and very responsive 3.5 v6.
Anyways, Congrats on the RDX! welcome to the RDX fam!

They are both in about the same price range and the G35 has the 4 wheel drive option. I'm also getting the feeling from various people's posts that both vehicles drive about the same with driving dynamicss favoring the G35 and utility and electronics favoring the RDX.
I am in that boat. The only model I'm considering is the G35X-s. The small trunk and the navigation system which locks out manual control when the vehicle is moving is a real turnoff. I also think that Honda vehicles hold up better than Nissan vehicles in the long run (+100k miles). However, I prefer the V-6 to the turbo 4. Tough decisions....

I think faster off the line than my G35, but not overall. (Of course I had the AWD sedan, you had the 6sp. shifter, so maybe not as much) Cool!
