'09 RDX - What to look for/maintain

Hi, newbie here, but not new to Acura. Had '92 Legend, '93 Vigor back in the day. Buying an '09 RDX base, 32k miles, former lease car, former Acura CPO vehicle. 2nd Owner traded for a BMW. Gonna get it end of week. 6 months left on balance of 4/40,000 warranty. Crystal Black with mauve interior.

Anything I should be wary of/look for? Dealer did a Mobil 1 change 200 miles ago. What about tranny and rear diff fluids, are they ready for a change? There's a Honda dealer near my work. Am gonna throw on mud flaps. Anybody think I need an extended warranty?

Thanks a lot. Excited to be an Acura owner again.

There is not much you have to look for or fix. You can double-check or change out the tranny or sh-awd fluid; but, you really don't need to. The basic 4/50,000 warranty starts on the vehicle manufacture date, not dealership delivery or sale date to the customer. Being a CPO vehicle, there should be a extension of the basic 4/50,000 warranty?

http://www.acura.com/content/pdf/907...AL_5.25.11.pdf

I'm not sure if your 09 RDX is covered; but, it shows:

4/50,000 extended to 5/62,000 for Non-powertrain coverage within new Vehicle Warranty

Extention of the 6/70,000 powertrain to 7/100,000.

I would double-check to make sure this still applies with your CPO 09 RDX. If this is still good, you just have to worry about gas, tires, brakes, and routine maint. Just having the 4/50,000 and 6/70,000 has saved my about +$4000 for my RDX/TSX in parts, labor and car rentals.

These fluid changes are reported by the MID just as the engine oil change is. However, resetting the MID manually after an oil change can also reset other reported maintenance items, so that they do not appear until the next oil change MID.

So, I would check with the dealer, for the maintenance records for your vehicle, to find out if either the trans or rear diff oil has ever been changed, and when.

My own RDX reports a rear diff change about every 15K miles, but I actually do one every year - just me.

And I would not go more than 30K miles before a trans oil change, as well as the transfer case - again that is just me. The transfer case holds only 1/2 quart, not much oil.

While paying for these services can be somewhat costly, doing it yourself is pretty cheap, just the cost of the oil. There are threads on this site for each of these services, which I have performed myself, and did not find them very difficult.

The Owner Manual requires a brake fluid flush once every 3 years. I do one every year.

I also flush the Power Steering fluid every year.

Make your own choices.

okay, just talked to the dealership where it was offerred as a CPO. In March 2012, with 29.7k miles, they did:
- air filter and cabin filter
- 4 wheel alignment
- 4 new Michelin tires
- surfaced frt brake rotors
- did brake flush
- rear differential service

No records of tranny flush.

BTW, I paid $21.5 before trade-in. The CPO service for that was $2,400 per dealership records (Sunnyside Acura in Nashua NH).

So far, so good. Gotta set up Bluetooth, decide if I want XM/Sirius. Anyone know of latest deals?

Did they say or give you anything about the basic and powertrain warranties being extended?
