water pump seal - rubber

Hello everybody; recently my 2.2 CL 1997 has started to leak water from the water pump specifically thru a hole in the left side of the pump (it seems it is an original hole coming since manufacture) ; after this I went thru the acura carland web site in order to look for the water pump and everything related for the componente replacement; looking into this I discovered that a water pump seal - rubber goes plugging the hole.
According to the previous; it is normally to loose this seal?? or it means the water pump should be replaced?? or just to have another seal and simply install it again???

please I really appreciate your answers....in advance thanks

Renato

Water pump is replaced as a unit. There is an oring seal to seal the water pump to the motor surface.

If you've never had timing belts replaced, they are about due on a 97 2.2CL. Water pump is usually replaced at same time as timing belts since you have to remove timing belt covers and timing belts to replace the water pump. A new timing belt tensioner should be installed also.

There is also an oring seal under the rear balance shaft cover (oil pump cover also) that should be replaced. This oring usually start leaking oil between 100-200K and 10-15 years of service.

good luck

that hole is a weep hole and its not supposed to be plugged. if antifreeze is comming from that hole the pump is on its way out the door.
