Where's it located? Is it an easy bolt off replacement or is there stuff in the way? Thanks

 

VSS is on back side of engine near the thermostat housing. Pull air instake duct to gain access. There is a tiny drive link between VSS and transmission connection that will sometimes stick to the VSS and drop out if you're not careful.

OBD1 code 17 should be present for a bad VSS.
