rpm skips at 5
I have a 1997 Acura CL 3.0 V6
Recently I have noticed that if I put my gear in parking and press gas then the RPM only goes up to 5 and then starts skipping. Any idea whats wrong with it?
Also recently when I am driving, I hear the engine noise little louder. I am also feel slight vibration on my gas paddle. The noise and the vibration is a very slight change from how it was before, but I am wondering whats causing it so that I can stop it, before it becomes a bigger problem. I know my muffle is rusty, is it possible that a hidden leak in the muffler causing it?

you might have low oil which would account for louder engine noise and the fact that VTEC seems to not be engaging or only partially engaging. I had the same problem when I was in first gear the car would rev to about 4.5k rpm and then stop and then try to switch to 2nd gear and then midway through that change it's mind and then go back to first for the rest of the RPM range and then shift to 2nd and so on with none of the other gears exhibiting this problem. I then had my low oil pressure light come on a couple times while cornering which is very bad, I then checked my oil only to discover I was about 3 quarts low and had a bad leak. After adding three qts my engine shifts from 1st to 2nd normally and now it's gonna cost almost $1000 to fix including and oil change and tranny flush. My rear gasket seal is busted which is the seal thats between the engine and tranny so basically they have to drop the tranny to change it which is pretty labor intensive. but I'm gonna see if they can install my XS headers since they're gonna have to take the stock ones off to drop the tranny they might as well be nice and replace them with the new ones which should save me a couple hundred since I'm having trouble getting someone to help me install them myself.
