Replace Speedometer difficulty

How hard is it to swap either a speedometer or an instrument cluster? Is it a simple swap or does it require special calibration?

I have a speedo that bounces around, and I already replaced the VSS. Took it to Acura to diagnose and they said it was the speedometer. I would rather replace it with a used one to save costs if I can.

You could pull your instrument cluster and have repaired by online shops that specialize in instrument repair. If you buy a used cluster, you'll need to file an amended mileage statement to have a clear record of vehicle mileage, consistent w/ your reported mileage from inspections.

good luck

Thanks for the info. I can replace the speedo only from a difft cluster can't I? Or is the cluster all 1 part? That way I don't have to worry about the odo being different.

What year, trim is your CL? You can replace just the speedo and it is fairly inexpensive and simple with household tools. You basically seperate the gauge cluster cover from the main board, and remove the black trim. Then unscrew 3 or 4 screws, and the speedo and odometer lift right out. Only prob is your milage will be considerably off if you purchase a new one.

number "10" (example is a 98 3.0)

You could also find a cluster from a junkyard and just PnP it into your car.. or take the speedo out of it. BUT.. if you are doing a complete swap it has to be from the same trim to work correctly.. eg. 2.2, 2.3, 3.0 and year.
