Problem please help !!

hey guys ! i have a 97 acura 2.2 cl automatic ! runs great...just came back from a 3hr trip ! thier and back drove perfect !....well today i noticed when i was driving that it was shifting
gears a little rough then i parked somewhere to get something to eat...changed my mind and reversed out, then my speedometer starts going crazy ! dieing completely and going up and down randomly....soon after car felt super sluggish and slow ,then felt like it was stuck in gear and felt car vibrating as i tryed to quickly make it home. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT,NO BATT LIGHT, NO D4 BLINKING LIGHT .....HELP PLZ ! JUST GOT THIS CAR AND LOVE IT, BUT NOW THIS PLZZ HELP ! MY LIFE BASICALLY DEPENDS ON IT ! WHAT ARE THE POSSIBILITIES? CAUSES? I HOPE ITS JUST A BAD VSS BUT I DONT RECALL IT MAKING SUCH SYMPTOMS WITH TRANNY SHIFTING CAN IT? THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIME!

drove her again and then it started doing it agin speedo going crazy and hard sluggish shifting.....after 3min speedo stopped working completely and it stopped shifting bad.....very weird ! then i was near advance auto parts and put the code on......po42o came up...cat efficiency! i have new headers installed a week or 2 ago and new upstream o2 sensor...have a test pipe instead of cat and had a bung welded on the test pipe for downstream o2 sensor.....all that and car ran perfect till now.....can it be a o2 sensor wire touching the headers/pipe? thanks

ok today i jacked up the car and found my downstream o2 sensor slightly burnt...i mean almost nothing....its right after the o2 sensor....literally the 1st wires coming out of downstream o2 sensor the bolted side on test pipe/cat..........well i disconnected it and ran better for a little longer but then the speedometer went wacky agin !!! does this mean that it isnt the o2 sensor? i would think by disconnecting it if there were to be a short it wouldnt short out cause its disconnected! would speedo go wacky even if i disconnect? thanks any clues GREATLY APPRECIATED!! GOD BLESS

there is a fuse box on the drivers side just above the dead pedal in the car...if you have a test pipe installed you are going to throw codes...P0420 is Catalyst system efficiency below threshold...this is chiefly due to THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER BEING ABSENT ENTIRELY!!...either ditch the test pipe and find a catalytic converter which will pass emissions (not a high flow cat) or do an o2 sensor delete by wiring up a resistor in the downstream o2 sensor wiring. this should help

Also ever since the speedometer started acting up when i trun the car on in the mournings it takes an extra 2-3 secs of cranking to turn the car on! Alternator going bad? My rpms havent act up at all ! Thats why i baisically cross out the alt! ......i also just test drove the car again and my cruise control button dont work! Sucky part is that i never tryed it b4 but i heard that if its the vss then cruise control wont work ! Thanks agin

this is the VSS it should be on the tranny...try looking below the throttle body area...its held on by 2 10mm bolts. if your ABS light is on it might be one of the 4 wheel ABS sensors.

as for the o2 sensor...since you already have the hole drilled for the sensor you could try this non-fouler trick pictured here...

follow the link in that thread...and please search for answers

hey on the automatic transmission right under the radiator hose those 2 sensors mounted on the tranny got really wet today by radiator fluid. hose had a little leak and changed it! my d4 light was flashing while my speedometer was wacky! first time it blinks the d4 light so i was like "yep for sure its the vss" cause i heard u guys saying that if it blinks and speedometer wacky that its a sign of bad vss. but when i checked it happens to be that the 2 sensors mounted on tranny right under the radiator hose was full of antifreeze/wet! dryed up and put sensor cleaner and it stoped when i turned her back on....havent drove long to really test but can this sensors wet cause this? thanks

i dont know forsure but it sounds plausible...put some dielectric grease in the connector before connecting it back up...this should help with moisture in there

To my understanding I thought a P0420 bank 1 was the first o2 sensor and not the cat.
