Oxygen sensor wiring
Oxygen sensor wiring
Hey guys.
I learned the expensive way how to do timing belts on cars with counterbalance shafts last winter, and ended up replacing the engine. Everything went well except a few things. One of them was the rear O2 sensor, I tore the wiring out of the plug on the sensor side. The colors do not match up through the chassis-sensor connection, so I am in need of a wiring diagram.
Anyone that has the diagram for a 1997 CL 2.2 rear oxy sensor, or is willing to get under their car and take a pic, I would be very appreciative.
since I have no sig, and no intro post,
Cars- 97 CL, 92 civic CX, 89 4runner rocktoy
Thanks guys!

If wires are pulled out of sensor then a new sensor is needed. Were wires pulled out of the electrical connector on the sensor side?
This is tricky to get right as all 4 wires should be correctly re-installed and the wire code on the sensor side is not specified in the shop manual, only on the engine harness side. I would suggest purchasing a new O2 sensor, or be prepared for a bit of experimental work.
The O2 heater wires are not critical and usually they are both the same color (gray) on the sensor side. The O2 sensor wires may be white and black on the sensor side, but I don't know which is the sensor output and which is sensor input, and it has to be correct. I did this years ago to replace an O2 sensor w/ a replacement universal O2 sensor and had to wire it twice. If you get it wrong, as I did, the CEL will come on immediately and you reverse the wiring, so best to wire temporarily and check.
good luck

Great bit of info. Thank you very much. The heater wires are white on this sensor. I will hook them up and give it a shot!
(I was worried that I could mess up the ECU by mixung up the signal and input on the oxy sensor).
What does the last wire do? I know there is 12v and (-) for the heating element, and a signal that sends a voltage around 1.5v to the ECU... But the power is generated by the zirconia crystal... does it use a voltage input or a ground input?
thanks
