O2 Sensor

My CEL has been on, and I needed to get emissions done. I had the guy try to tell me the code, but nothing came back. So I went ahead and got the test done since if I failed it would tell me what failed. It is the post-cat O2 sensor. Simple fix, but would I be able to replace it myself? Or is this something I'd have to take in to fix?

I was looking at this for the replacement.

I was goin to try this replacement too.Getting to the sensor might be a pain without a lift. To make removal easier you need a special 02 sensor socket. Then you unplug the electrical connection. Before putting on the new one be sure to put antisieze on the threads. I not sure of the torque specs. Then just do the reverse to install. Are you getting code P0420? because this code could be other things such as the actual cat or and exhaust leak so an o2 sensor might not be the problem. There is a way to test the o2 sensor to see if it bad, using a voltmeter but i don't know the exact procedure.

Yeah that sounds too complicated for me to attempt

Well I had the guy test the CEL for codes, and he got nothing back. I had to get my emissions tested though, and if the CEL light is on the test will fail, BUT tell you what is wrong. It said my rear O2 Sensor was bad. Hopefully that is all that is wrong.

I haven't noticed any difference in my car since the light has been on, and I've driven a lot with the light on (very bad I know). I'm going to get the O2 sensor replaced this week, so I'll find out then.

I would try another parts shop to perform the OBD2 code check. If CEL is now on reset ECU by pulling BackUp fuse for 20 secs, and see if CEL comes back quickly. If yes, the code should be there w/ a good OBD2 scanner. Try Autozone or other parts outlets.

Or you can pull the OBD1 code youself by pulling back the passenger carpet, turn keyswitch to ON, and read the flashing LED (through a clear window) left of center on the ECU/TCU module on the floorboard. Code is flashed Long=F, short=f so code 17 = F-fffffff.

Post back your OBD2 or OBD1 code and I'll try to help.

good luck

I'll give autozone a try... last time I was there they didn't have anyone who could check it.

I forgot to mention, but when I have a FULL tank of gas the CEL will not be on. After about 25 miles or so the CEL comes back on. Don't know if that means anything?

I replaced my o2 sensor last night. The only thing that sucked was getting the old sensor off. I had to use a breaker bar. I rented a socket from Advance Auto Parts. You need a 22mm wrench otherwise. It woulda been a ton easier with a lift, but aggression and anger prevailed, haha. If I were you, I'd see if you could get a buddy to help you with it to avoid taking it to a shop.

I got a Bosch universal kit and spliced the wires myself. It was actually pretty easy, no soldering needed. If you need help I can try my best to recount, haha.

Yeah sounds like fun.. But I think I'll just take it to a shop and get it replaced there. I'm too busy the next 2 weeks to attempt it, and I need it done in 2 weeks. Ty though.

Haha, I actually preferred doing this job without a lift, so I could keep my arms in. Didn't want my shoulder to come out again wrenching on the thing
