Need advice on how to remove lower balljoint

Like the title says, I'm looking for some tips on how to remove the lower ball joint from the knuckle assembly on my car (97 2.2).. I have rented a balljoint press kit from the local parts store but the damn thing doesn't fit well on my car... Is there anyother way to get that sucker out? I tried to hammer it out a little without success....

Thanks for the help guys....

ya i hate the rental tool. I rented it from CDN tire once and is was the biggest piece of shit.

All i did was take off the clip that holds it in and bang it out with a hammer.

We ended up doing the same thing this morning, took a little time and a few good bangs and the sucker came right out...

I used the press tool to install the new ball joint w/ the lower end of clamp pressing the base of the ball joint and a large socket or tube for a receiver/spacer on lower side of knuckle. Once everything was snugged, I restrained the knuckle/assy in a vise to allow turning press drive bolt w/ a breaker bar. It probably took 100-120 ft-lbs to turn the press drive bolt.

good luck

I rented a press kit to install the new one in. I didn't have to remove the knuckle assembly from the car or anything. I put some anti seize on the side of the ball joint and cleaned the hole real good and it went in very easily, didn't even have to break out the power bar...
