loud screeching horrendous noise coming from the heater when cold out
so i reside in minnesota. and its cold as hell. well, actually quite a bit colder than hell, seeing is its on fire. well anyways, so the past few mornings when i start my car and i turn on my heater to get me nice and toasty, the heater has made a horrible screeching sound that is worse than a puppy in pain. yes, its that bad. after a few moments it usully subsides. it usually lasts for about 10-15 seconds. any clue what this could possibly be? oh, and at the present time im in kansas. which is much warmer obviously, and it doesnt make this sound. it appears to only happen in sub-zero conditions. is their a way to fix this or should i just get myself a nice pair of headphones for the car?

Noise is from blower motor rotating armature contacting the field magnets around it. Noise will indeed make your skin crawl. Problem is caused by the armature support bushings becoming loose from their retainers or wearing out. It is not repairable and a new blower is necessary. Check ebay for a good replacement unit. Easy installation in CL's; disconnect electrical lead and remove three screws.
