Keyless Remote
The remote I received with my 98 2.3CL looks like it has gone through WWIII. The car doesn't chirp only the lights flash, so I figured that I would try replacing the battery. Now the remote only functions intermittently, I have to push the lock or unlock button 6-10 times for the car to lock/unlock. Should I try replacing the remote? The car only came with one key and remote so I probably need to get a spare anyway. The factory alarm has been acting funky with no horn/alarm and the immobilizer or security light not functioning so I am hoping it is not the main system.
I see that you can buy replacements off eBay that come with programming instructions for about $40-50. The Acura dealership wants an arm and a leg for a replacement. I see that there are several auctions on eBay selling a used keyfob with the correct FCC ID: A269ZUA108.
Also, I know that the 98 CL's have a chip in the key. Can you purchase one of these off eBay as well? And do they need to be programmed?
Thank you

The keys are coded for your particular ignition, so you would have to the correct combo.
It sounds like your fob is on the way out, so by a new one or try to take it apart and use some contact cleaner. But with time, those contacts inside it wear out, so do what you will.

Just did this
Hey guys so I just went thought the process of making myself a new set of keys.
I was unable to find anyone in the San Fernando Valley who could cut and code a key for me but my Acura Dealership. The burn was that it cost me $54.
The clicker i bought of ebay. Matched the numbers of the back of my first clicker and the dude was able to send me programing information. $35 with shipping.
The dealer wanted close to $200 for what I did for $90.
Hope this shed some light.

anyone have any idea why one button would stop working and not the other three? in my case, my trunk latch doesn't release, but my lock/unlock and alarm buttons work. i've replaced my battery when my lock/unlock starting going out. anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
duck, you said it could be the internal contacts. could this be a possibility in my case, since it's only one button?
any kind of insight is greatly appreciated...

Could be your contact in your remote. Each button, when pressed, makes an electrical circuit complete, sends the signal, and your car responds accordingly. If dust, grime, dirt etc. gets inside your remote, it can make your remote not complete that circuit. Also, they're small metal contacts, and just plain wear out with time.
Take the remote apart and gentle blow the inside clean with compressed air ( in a can thats made for computers is great ) and follow up with a small amount of contact cleaner ( MAF cleaner for cars by CFC works good ). If that doesnt work, try getting a new remote.

Just got my new remote I ordered off of ebay and programmed it in about 3 minutes. It is nice to have a remote that works all the time again.
I am going to try cleaning the contacts on the old remote and saving it as a backup.
Thank you all for your help!

Hello,
I will apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge, but can someone please tell me where to find the FCC Id? I have the standard key remote but would like to buy a new one. I do not see numbers on the back or on the inside of the battery cover. Do I need to take this thing apart...and if so, how would I go about doing this without causing permanent damage.
Thanks for the help.

Sorry never mind....I was able to get another remote for free and this one has a sticker on the back where the "fcc" code is indicated.
Now all I need to do is figure out whether this new remote by chance has a matching fcc to my specific vehicle? Does anyone know how I can find out what the fcc is for my 1997 2.2cl?
Perhaps it is written somewhere, kinda like how the stereo code is secretly hidden in the engine fuse box! Should I just try and do the "on/lock/off" programming technique as indicated in a seperate thread?
Many thanks to all helpful contributors on this site. I have learned much knowledge.

The FCC ID to my 97 2.2CL is "A269ZUA108". I think it might be different for Canadian models, but that should be the # if your CL originated in the US.

The FCC ID you listed matches the one from my extra FOB. I guess I'll just try to do the programming procedure as described in the thread "Keyfob Issues" posted by playn4keeps and see if it works.
Thanks,

Any time you replace the battery in your remote, you have to resyncronise the remote,to do this stand in front of the car and press either the lock or unlock button 6 times, speed of pressing is not an issue.
