Junkyard Engine...

Im replacing my engine with one from the junk yard that has 75k mile on it (so im told).

Is the vin # on the engine & if so where may I find it.

I have a five speed so does it matters if the replacement engine comes from a automatic?

My engine is a F23A1, is this the only thing that has to match up?

Should I replace water pump & timing belt before installing new engine?

All additional info DEEPLY appreciated...

The vin# should be on the vehicle itself and not the engine (correct me if I am wrong). As for the motor, it doesnt matter that it came off an automatic you can use it. I am doing the same thing as you, my replacement motor came off an automatic Accord with the same engine. Just to be safe, I would replace the timing belt and water pump. Those are two things you definitely do not want trouble from.

There is a VIN number on the engine. Should be stamped near the same place the model number is (F23A1).

I looked on my current engine (which was never changed before) by the F23A1 & I see several numbers stamped on it but none of them match or even partially match my vin.

Is it in a code or somewhere else?

I went outside and looked at my car and realized I was thinking of my old one. Sorry, I don't know where it is on the CL.

There are sometimes VIN's on the back of honda motors, but generally just on the car. If it's on the back, it will be on a green tag to the left of the oil filter.

New Engine

Hello All...

My engine died in May & I just had her replaced with a Japan engine with only 60k miles on her... I was also given a 12 months / 12000 miles warranty!

She feels NEW & so I'm back!

I know the vin is stamped near the starter on chevrolet motors and on the block next to the goose neck on big block mopar motors. I am sure there has to be some numbers on foreign vehicles also but not sure where they would be located

Good deal fromztosuv! Did you do it yourself and did you have any problems with emissions? Isn't the Jap engine rated at a high horsepower?

I had EVERTHING done! Passed emission with no problems. It cost me $1400 but the car is in excellent condition (WORTH EVERY DIME) & it feels pretty SMOOTH & POWERFUL...
