Intro and car problems
Hi Everyone
I just wanted to say hello and thanks to everyone for their posts. I researched the first generation CL's using this website and was a great help. I like Honda's for the reliability, styling, and comfortable driving.
Just purchased a 98 3.0 CL last week with 141K miles. Car runs great, too bad the body is a little dinged up. It's a commuter car for me, putting on about 90+ miles per day.
Problem #1: Today, the car shutoff on me as I was driving in the street. I've read posts about this, but I can't say for sure if this is related to one of the recalls, so your help is appreciated. Most everything shutoff on me, but I noticed that the security light kept flashing, even though the key was still in the ignition. I simply pulled over and restarted the car and drove back home with no problems.
Problem #2: I do basic maintenance myself, but I can't loosen the ATF filler bolt. I used my hand tools and my drill gun with no luck. Then I took it to the dealer who used a huge hand tool and air gun, still no luck. They said they can try an impact driver, but it could crack the tranny case. I'm thinking my best option would be to just fill through the dipstick, but I can't find a funnel skinny enough to fit (nor long enough to reach). Any thoughts?
Thanks

I'm glad you attempted to loosen the filler bolt, prior to draining the fluid. I'm surprised that bolt is that tight. I think the torque on it should be in the 30s. Did you try removing the bolt, when the engine is cold? I sometimes have better luck that way, or after downing some drinks.
If you are going to fill through the dip stick, you're probably going to need to raise the front of the car. The dip stick sits low in the reservoir. I'm not sure if you can create enough fluid pressure in the small dipstick tube to push in all the fluid.
You might have better luck using a hand pump, connecting it to the ATF cooler return line and manually pumping the fluid into the reservoir.
