HELP Window stuck down

My passenger side window is stuck down. I took it to a midas today and they claimed that the regulator was off the hinges and that they needed to replace the entire motor. I instead told them to try to just get it up but apparentley the couldn't do that either (i ended up having to pay $56.00 for literally nothing).

Anyway, the motor is not broken so would i possibly be able to remove the side panel and try to do this myself? The guys at Midas don't sound too convincing so does anyone know what may be wrong? All i can hear is the motor going up but not being able to grab the window. Any help or does anyone know what may be wrong?

yes, most likely it's the regulator. It's a common problem on our cars. You can buy one for a Cl or a 94-97 accord COUPE. Not sure if the search function is working now but this has been discussed numerous times on here and a lot of members have fixed it themselves. What exactly did the say the $56.00 was for?

He just basically said it was labor to *try* to fix the car. Its complete bullshit but theres just nothing i can do about it. So is there no way that i can just prop it up?

I'm pretty sure that i remember reading other members posts about taking the door panel off and proping up the glass with a piece of wood. hopefully someone who has done this will post some help.

If you don't have time to fix it right now, just take off the panel and prop it up.
It is probably a bad motor, which, as was mentioned, is very common on our cars.
If/when you want to fix it, check out the DIY and do it yourself.
It's very easy and takes very little time. You will save a ton of money too.

We have a family mechanic that does alot of work for us for very cheap. How difficult is it to get the panel off?

Ignore all that down there, I found the DIY guide
http://home.comcast.net/~bobobutler/...ra_Window.html

Getting the panel off will take you like 5 min if you know what screws you're getting off, maybe more like 10 if you're trying to figure it out with no help.
The whole job is very easy, probably a 30 min job. Unscrew a few screws on the door by the handle, and pull the lower part off from the tabs. There will be some wires connected, just disconnect them.
Then you'll see the sheet covering everything, just pull it off and stick it back on later.
You should be able to see everything from there. Unscrew the motor and track from the door, and replace with with new parts.
Getting it back on can be a bit confusing the first time you do it, but there's really no difficult work involved - it's just hard to see what you're doing and how the stuff lines up.
Keep the window rolled down when you put it back on, and don't be afraid to give the lower part of the door a good hit to get those tabs back in.

My daughter-in-law's 97 CL drivers window went down and won't come up. I read the diy on the panel removal, which would have been easier with some light. some of those connectors were stubborn.....
We could get the window half way up then I could feel a small cable attached to the mechanism holding the bottom of the glass. I figure the regulator is shot after reading how common it is for this model. I propped the window up with towels on the inside. Should I just change out the regulator or could it be something else?
Thanks

My girlfriend got taken by our local Elmhurst Dealer on the same deal. They wanted over $350.00 to replace the regulator (the cable was broken). Unfortunately, I was not available (due to work) to counsel her on this one. They ended up charging her over $100.00 just to tape the window in the upright/closed position. On top of that, they use painters tape (you know the blue or green crappy tape). I bought the regulator two weeks ago and will be changing it this weekend. Is there a DIY on the door panel removal? I am worried that if I miss a screw or two, that I might do some damage.

it's the regulator, they go easily. Bad design+heavy glass= constant failures.

I've changed out 5 driver side regulators.

Next time, please read the noob guide, it has that info right in it.

got it on and tested without panel on and it worked fine, slow but fine going up and down, after installing the panel it didn't want to go up past 1/3. I was able to pull the window up and then the mechanism went up. Is there a chance that the cable got bound up somehow by the panel or the top of the panel applying too much pressure on the glass? Is there some places that I should lubricate for the glass to slide easier along the guide?

its the design of the motor itself. Our door glass is very heavy for such a design, and while some of the broken ones would sometimes work without the glass, they were dead with the glass attached.

I was referring to the replacement one that I bought off of eBay. My son told me that it is going up and down now but slows as it gets to the top. Should the tracking have been lubricated with something? Has anyone had issues with the eBay ones?
Thanks

Mine arrived heavily lubricated. If yours wasn't, that is probably a big problem. You can also grease up the edge of the window, where it slides up the part of the window frame closest to the rear. This helps reduce squealing, so it probably will help the speed as well (less friction).

i replaced my passenger side regulator about 3 years ago and it never really went up and down that fast once the job was done. I always thought somehow the door panel was putting too much pressure on the window, causing it to squeak and sometimes even stop. What kind of lube should i use on the edge of the window frame/how much should i put on each side?

Any all purpose spray. I use liquid wrench. If you have the door panel off I would put white lithium grease where the cable slides on the plastic pulley.

Just spray some silicon lube on the seals. I just did that today after replacing my regulator - goes up and down just as quickly as before.
