Heat not hot

Try this:
Go into the engine bay, look for the water valve at the firewall that switches the coolant flow from bypassing the heater core inside the dash and entering the heater core from inside the dash. There should be a cable coming out from inside the car that is attached to your water valve. If it is not attached then turning on your heat will do nothing because the hot coolant is not flowing through the heater core. If this is the case you can manually open the valve to allow the coolant to flow into the dash or simply try reattaching the cable. If the cable is attached and functioning correctly (when heat is turned on it will extend/retract and open the water valve), then you have a different issue. The heater core itself may be clogged (although if this were rhe case you would get some heat), you may be low on coolant (check radiator), or as you stated, your thermostat may be defective. How old is the thermostat? How much heat if any are you getting? Is the cable attached? How full is your radiator? When did you notice this issue? Are there any other symptoms?
