Engine braking when let off gas

1997 2.2 CL
AUTOMATIC
F22B1 - HEADERS - INTAKE ETC
HEY GUYS.........i've been feeling a wierd braking sensation when i let off the gas pedal.I could be going 50mph and when i let off the gas to cruise my rpms seem like it surges a bit down(like down shifting) and braking at the same time. is this normal? i heard other cars do this but is it normal for the f22b1 automatic engines? it feels annoying and just want to make sure its not the tranny, other then that braking feeling when i let off the gas the tranny shifts fine and drives fine.what can it be? tranny? sensors? o2 sensor? no check engine light - no abs light - good tranny fluid - all new brake pads and new master cylinder THANKS

how about if you are at low rpms and let off the gas?...sounds to me like its just the tranny slowing the car after high rpm let off...although i dont have an auto so hopefully someone with an auto comment on if this is normal or not

mine does this with the auto v6 1997, if you want the speed to stay turn on cruise control, otherwise it'll downshift as it coasts down to 0

i have a 99 3.0 and mines always done this, i feel like it kills on gas mileage cause you either stay on the gas or your car breaks for you...

yup, owned my car 5 years now and its done this all along, it got better when i changed the tranny fluid the first time when i bought it, i change it every spring (3x3x3). i ruled out wheel bearings cause they were new when i bought it. i thought maby it was just the v6 due to weight but guess not
