Electrical Issue

Electrical Issue
I seem to be having an electrical issue with my 98 3.0L. Even since the rear LED spoiler was installed (in 99 or 00) the instrument panel lights will fade when the turn signals are on, especially if the brake lights are lit. The problem is more prominent if the climate control is turned off or if the fans are at a low setting. Sometimes even the headlamps will dim. I'm thinking it's a grounding issue with the spoiler, but could it be something more serious? As to why the problem was never fixed, the car belonged to my parents (I've purchased it from them) and they never got around to taking it back to the dealer. Anyone else get this before?

you have to use the wires for the 3rd brake light to power the spoiler. tap into those or just cut and direct connect them. it sounds like someone has the spoiler going directly to one brake light. prolly overloading the relay.

I have the exact same problem. i checked it out where i work and my mechanic friend told me to do a simple test which may help... when u turn ur turn signals on, you will notice how the lights dim and come back as the signal lights up, now turn on our wiper blades while signaling. If the problem goes away, that means that the alternator is just not giving enough juice when the signal lights com one. My alternator works fine when i tested it on the diagnostics machine, but according to this test my alternator wasnt putting out enough power when the signals are on... no big deal because theres no harm done to the car
