Unhappy DRL Problem

I'm having a problem with my lights. The DRL Light is on when I start the car, then comes off when I turn on the dash lighting and then the beams. It then starts to flash erratically along with the high beam indicator, with the high beams not working. I have no idea why its doing this. Thanks for any advice in advance.

You should check the connection to the DRL control unit, usually under the dash.

If that's OK, I would suspect either your headlight relay is weak or your steering column switch.

You will need a shop manual w/ circuit diagram and location diagram to locate the DRL relay and headlight relay.

good luck

Where could I obtain such a manual and what exactly would I be looking for? What does this relay look like?

thanks

Manual is available from helminc.com, and other internet sources. Try a google search for "Acura Shop Manual".

Headligh telay is probably located in the underhood fuse box. The DRL is usually in the pax cabin underneath the dash. I don't have a manual for your model.

good luck

Thanks, I will let you know if i need anything

But Im thinking that the fuses cud be blown...I think I'll replace those first before i start removing the dash and all. If its that serious I might consider taking it to a shop...Im no good with electronics.

Well after checking the fuses, they all turned out to be fine, i've narrowed it down to the DRL relay and the Headlight (lighting) relay. Also upon a closer examination, i figured out it was my high beams that wont come on, the DRL's are fine. Now im confused wether i should replace the DRL relay (150$) or the Lighting Relay(40$). The dealer told me to book and appointment so they can charge me 45$ for diagnostics The only hint I have is that after removing the Lights Relay, Low Beams wont come on either. Any Ideas guys?

Thanx in advance.

The headlight relay enables both Hi and Lo beams. so removing should disable both hi and lo headlights.

Check elsewhere for the headlight relay. I suspect it will be available from aftermarket sources at much lower cost. Make sure the connection to the DRL relay is sound and not damaged.

Check used parts outlets for a DRL control unit. I like car-part.com which allows you to identify parts near your home.

good luck

Well I replaced the head light relay 2day, but still no luck ...at this point i think my high beams bulbs might be burnt out cuz of the relay malfunctioning.Since this was a recurring problem, they did work every now and then...this is my reasoning for assuming the bulbs are burnt. This proving to be a headache

^^what's even more of a headache is that you have to take it to the dealer for a 45$ diagnostic

good luck.. hope your pockets are deep

They arent deep at all..but i still prefer doing trial and error myself rather than paying some1 else fiddle with my car. Ima stop at the bulbs, if that dont work..f-it...i can deal with no hi beams.

Well I Tried changing the buls yesterday, after the high beams had a glimpse of life by one of them comin on...put in the bulb....nothing....both refuse to come on...this is amazingly stupid. Its pretty much back to usual behaviour...flashing dash indicators, high beam working every now and then. Im completly confused

DRL relays get cracked solder joints. Just take the circuit board out of the case and resolder any joints that look like they are cracked.

I wouldn't say its a waste. You're still ahead since you can either sell the relay or keep it for when it goes out. You're ahead compared to if you would have gone to the dealer.
