Cigarette Lighter Not Working

Hey guys. My cigarette lighter doesn't work anymore at all. I can push it in but it doesn't get hot and I can't get power out of it. What needs to be replaced and can I do this at home? Thanks in advance people.

it's a sign, your car wants you to quit smoking

check your fuses first

good for not smoking

i'd pulled the dash apart to get to it and check if there's power to the rear of lighter(or whereever the lighter connects to power) if theres power, the sockets bad, if not then theres a short somewhere

you'll want a voltmeter to check for power

This happened to me and frustrated the snot out of me. I looked everywhere for the problem. Finally I got fed up and let a mechanic (backyard, but very experienced) take a look at it - this after driving the car with the lighter out of it for 2 years.

When he took the female end out of the console he found a solder had melted and the wire was no longer connected. He took it home soldered it, and put it back the next day. Problem solved.

BTW this happened after I used a compressor to fill up a slow leaking tire. I guess the constant drain melted the solder.

Hope this helps!

Mine still doesn't work. Fuse is fine so it must be the back of the lighter. I'm gonna have someone look at it.

The inside of the "socket" might have corrosion, which prevents the current from flowing. I think our lighter socket just pops out, take it out, and look at the connections in the back.

How to 'Pop' it out?

How do you 'pop' it out. I think I'm gonna break it. I don't see any clamps holding it in. Thanks again for the help.

It screws out? I have a 97 too. Does it screw out from the inside or outside of the dash piece? If the actual connector goes out, did you just get another one from Acura?

you have to remove the trim ring, and ashtray and disconnect everything from behind unless you want to take out your radio which will be a looott easier. trust me. then just pull out

there is a sleeve that fits over the element you can see that screws on to the cover. You have to hole the part where the cigarette lighter fits in and turn the sleeve on the back to take it apart
