Check Engine Light
Check Engine Light
Ok so I have a 1997 3.0 CL and the transmission has been acting wierd by slipping and jolting when its cold. When the car is warm, its back to normal and shifts fine. This has been going on for the past 10k miles. Im at 81k miles now and the check engine light came on last night. I went to Advance and they said that it was the EGR Valve...Does anyone know how to change the EGR or should I just bring it to the dealer? Thanks!
Our cars do have a history for clogged EGR. You can DIY or take it in and have the dealer do it.
Your transmission will act retarded when it is cold. My car absolutely hated winters this year. Slipping and hunting gears. Now it is warm, it is happy again. But I dont know if the tranny has a feedforward off the EGR, but I know it does off of the engine thermostat. So i dont know if it will affect it directly.
Did you get the specific engine code that they pulled??

ok so i found out the code is PO401 and i searced around google and people were saying that it may not be the actually EGR valve and that the ports may need to just be cleaned out. Where is a reputable place besides the dealer??? I dont know what to do because I am planning on taking it on a little trip in a couple weeks!!!
