Check Engine Light is on

My Check Engine LIght is on for few days.
and I went to Autozone to check it.
they said that my Catalytic Converter has problem. I may want to change it.
my question is that if I want to buy the part from dealer it asks around $480.
but I saw on ebay it has Catalytic Converter, too. and it fixes with my 98 2.3 CL.
Is it ok to buy the part online and go to body shop to replace it?
or u guys recommand me to go to body shop and ask them to order from dealer?

the price has a really big different.
plz help me soon..
I am going to fix it soon
thanks

order it yourself, cause if you order it from the stealership, you're gonna get wallet-raped

did it say cat below threshold? or did it say secondary o2/cat below threshold.? one is the secondary o2 sensor, which has no emission effect on your car, and the other is the cat goin down hill.

mine sais cat below threshold. Ive been neglecting getting the o2 censor replaced for a year now. When my check comes one ( every week or so ) i just reset the bitch. Its the o2 right after the header downpipe, right ?

yea thats the secondary or bank 2 o2 sensor. alot of people dont know but they are interchangeable, so if anyone has a primary go bad, swap them and you ll have a bad secondary but like i said before it has no running effect on the vehicle

If you swap the two wont you still throw a code because it is still reading the bad o2 sensor...Those little bastards arent cheap either, they are like 90 bucks a pop.

that is correct but it will throw a code for bank 2 o2 sensor being bad, and not bank 1 which is the one that curves your fuel ratio.

I made a thread like this earlier but hah no one really helped.

I'm having problems finding a shop that is willing to weld on the cat that I had already bought offline b/c it's not obd2 certified. Theres no o2 bung on the cat I have. Is it illegal to weld on a cat that isn't obd2 certified on our cars?

I don't care if my check engine light is on, I already can't pass smog due to my intake & header.

this guy really knows his stuff..haha lolz. props..and my bad about bashing on you the last time. long time ago. but anyway i had the a problem on my cat aswell.....it said "cat below threshold"....dunno what that meant but the netting or filter thing inside the cat was melted and wasnt straight....also the the cat was making a lot of muffle sound. to the tread maker...does the car muffle? replace it....doesnt? change the o2 sensor....good luck

if you bought a cat online, is it a respected site? as far as i know. Its illegal to sell used cats....i guess it has to do with emissions....either way you should have one because it can help you out later on when your car is having problems. without it the ECU wont read, locate, and work properly. you can run a straight pipe from your headers to your muffler, but are you taking it to the track? lolz its loud...

Had the same problem when I first got my CL, just order youself a quality cat and have a shop install it. Save your ass a grip over dealerships.

a really bad picture of my cl, hah taken a few days ago. Notice it's x mas?

An age old picture of my eg, but... it's all I have now. Since then it's gotten some cosmetics. Jdm interior, side markers, cf mirrors & duckbill.

this is when I stripped it.......

for the JDM interior (I guess you have to be a hatch owner to know what the difference is.)

as of course I had to change this...

This is an old picture, I have a buddy club wheel now.

I think thats all i can dig up haha I'll post pics of my boost later or something

Ha, my first car was a '92 Civic Hatchback CX. That backseat looks quite a bit nicer than the stock one!

*Oh* how I miss that car. Though, the CL replaces it nicely.
