check engine light?!

So im driving home from school, and it goes on. My question is could it possibly be that it is just in need of a ecu reset? I checked for funny noises, knocking etc. nothing smelled weird and the car ran the same. The only reason I ask this is because my mother's camry puts the check engine light on when it needs to go in for scheduled maintence. Do our cars do the same?

reset the ecu and if it comes back on then you have something to worry about.

If the gas gap does not click 3 times when you put it back on, the check engine light will come on.

My light turn on to , so I toke it to my friend that works at a dealer and he scaned it with his computer at work. And he told me it was sensor on the back of the header. I wonder if the warranty cover's it.

Get a paperclip and check the code. It is real easy to do.

check here under resources.. its prolly gonna be the egr insufficient flow. your car will be aiit, its just up to you on how long you want to see that light.. if you reset it, it will come back on in a week or so. scan for the code and get it fixed. also its free to go to autozone and have them scan the ecu for you. your obd2 connector is behind the ash tray. your self diagnostic port is under the dash on the pass side. good luck pimpin. oh yea the egr valve is covered by an extended emissions warranty. up to 100k for a 97/98, and 80k for a 99. i think those numbers are right.

The extended warranty on the EGR for the 97's is actually until 150k miles. I just had it done on mine.
