Car jerks
Car jerks
I have an acura 2.2cl 97 5 speed manuel when i start my car sometimes it jerks when i drive it like the car just jerks hard on first gear but when its in 3 or 4 it just feels like it has no power but when i just turn it off and start it back up again it works 95 % of times that why i havent really been worried about it. it works just fine after i restart it and that why ive been driving it like that for about 1 month any ideas of what the problem could be it happens when the car sits for 1-2 hours or longer and also sometimes my fuel gauge goes to E but then it starts to work the fuel problem happen way before the jerking problem so i dont think there linked
Maybe it's an ignition switch starting to go bad. Next time it happens turn the key slightly with just a little pressure but not enough to turn on the starter. This is what you have to do keep the car running when the switch goes bad (the switch had a recall for going bad)
is the engine stuttering is that what you mean or does the the car jerk when you go engage the clutch from first and third gear.
if its jerking with the clutch engaged could be a slipping clutch or bad fuel delivery system. hard to tell from your description

I've got a similar issue which happens very rarely, but is quite freaky. 1998 5MT, 99.9% sure that the previous owner has replaced the ignition switch under recall.
Driving along in gear just fine then all of a sudden it's as if the ignition is turned off and the clutch is dropped. Feel similar to if you are parked in 1st with the hand brake on and you drop the clutch. So there is a jerk. I've ran out of fuel while driving before and it's somewhat similar to that, but different.
This has happened a few times over a couple of years. After this "thud" the car keeps driving. It may or may not be related to driving over a bump of some sort - some kind of a contact issue? Any ideas?

sounds close to what he describes, probably not the problem but cinda close and a fucked problem. in short i have a 1999 cr-v, when i got it it jerked into gear and shit, under powered at highway speed and would downshift all the time, no codes thrown, i replaced A LOT of parts and it ended up being the timming belt tensioner was on backwards and the 1 cam skipped a cog, a timming belt, new tensioner and valve adjust and its a news cr-v.
Also this car here was serviced at the dealership for the majority of its life, so I doubt it would be something like this.

the storry of my cr-v was for knowlage and info cause the people that search these threads are looking for info and any info on close or similar cars/engines/ect.ect. is helpful. i know yours and silky1221's are MT. I read the posts but if some1 is reading cause they are searching fixes for a problem its nice to have lots of info rather than what seems to be the norm hear "FUCK OFF NOOB''READ THE NOOB GUIDE". its nice when people try to help not hinder ivan.
OP posted this in 2010; so i don't think he's coming back to figure it out. Silky- the CLs have recalls on ignition switches, that would cause your problems,as well as no-starts. call your local dealer with your vin and ask them if the recall has been performed-if not schedule an appointment. good luck
My experience...
Greetings all, I'm new to this site and forums in general...
I had a similar problem. I have a 98 Acura CL 2.3 5-speed manual. January of this year it started a very intermittent stuttering like you are describing...I would feel the car violently jerk, and then it would be fine again. Usually happened while at highway speeds with cruise control on. It began to get somewhat more frequent, but never tripped the engine light so it was hard to diagnose, couldn't use OBDII scan. I was afraid it was going to be a costly fuel problem somewhere. I took it to a trusted local shop and they recommended the ignition recall replacement (mentioned by previous posters). I had that done but the problem was still occurring.
I took it back to the shop and they got it fixed the 2nd time. There's an ignition module of some sort in the distributor, for me it was almost rectangular in shape, about a quarter inch thick, and had 3 or 4 tabs coming out of the sides like contact points. They replaced that with a used one they had on hand and I have not had the problem since. Hope this helps somebody! A lot cheaper than a fuel pump etc too!
